Golden Sayings & Speeches of Hazrat Bibi Fatima Tu Zahra a.s.
Asalamoalaka ya Hazrat Bibi Fatima Tu Zahra a.s.
Hazrat Bibi Fatima tu Zahra a.s  had to lead, addressing her father, the Holy Prophet, standing before his grave, said :- "Oh! Father dear! After thee, fell on me such miseries that had they fallen on bright days, the bright days would have turned into darkest nights.
  1. Bakri scholars also narrate from Salmaan who described seeing Faatimah one day: ((Faatimah was sitting with a hand mill in front of her, grinding barely, and there was blood on the handle [from the blisters on her hand caused by grinding]; while Hosayn was, in a corner, writhing with hunger. So I said: O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! see to your palms, and this is Feddah[179], [she will grind the barely for you]. But she said: Rasoolollaah told me to share the housework with her; and yesterday was her day of work[180].)).
  2. ((Rasoolollaah brought his daughter Faatimah a housemaid called Feddah al-Nawbeyyah, to help her with the housework; and he taught her a docaa’ to recite. One day, Faatimah asked her: Do you want to make the dough or do you want to bake? Feddah: I will make the dough and gather wood. So she went out, gathered the wood and wrapped it, but could not carry it. Then she recited the docaa’ the Prophet had taught her, which was: “O One! Like Whom there is no one. You cause everyone to die, and exterminate everyone. And You are one on Your throne. Slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep”. Suddenly a Bedouin appeared and carried the bundle to Faatimah’s home[204]/[205].)).
  3. ((When Feddah came to Faatimah’s home, she could not see anything but the sword, and the armor, and the hand mill. She was the daughter of the Indian king and had a supply of elixir, so she took a piece of copper, softened it, shaped it as a piece of silver, put the elixir on it and turned it into gold. When Ameer al-Mo’meneen returned, Feddah put the gold before him. Seeing it, he said: Bravo, O Feddah! But if you had melted the body, the color would have become better and the price more expensive. So Feddah said: O Master! Do you know this science? Imaam cAli: Yes, and this child knows it too, pointing to Imaam Hosayn [who was a child of around three years old]. Then Hosayn came and told Feddah exactly what Ameer al-Mo’meneen had said. Then Ameer al-Mo’meneen said: We know greater than this; he pointed with his hand, suddenly large pieces of gold and treasures of the earth appeared flowing. He said: Put your gold with its sisters; so she did and it flowed away[206].)).
  4. ((Faatimah had taught Feddah some strange sciences… One day, using what she had learned, Feddah made some gold, sold it and bought everything Faatimah and cAli needed in their home. When Faatimah saw all those things, she asked Feddah how she had bought them. And Feddah told her what she had done.So Faatimah said: Give this all to the poor, and do not repeat it again. We have not acquired this science and other sciences[207] to ascend through the levels of this world, but to practice contentment and zohd so that our ranks increase in the Hereafter[208].)).
  5. The overwhelming majority of Bakri ahaadeeth only name Rasoolollaah, Ameer al-Mo’meneen, Sayyedat Nesaa’ al-cAAlameen, Imaam Hasan and Imaam Hosayn as members of Ahl al-Bayt, and do not mention the Prophet’s wives[8]. For instance, Bakri scholars narrate from cAa’eshah, who said: ((While Rasoolollaah was covered with a blanket, Hasan came, and he took him under the blanket; then Hosayn came, and went under the blanket; then Faatimah came, and he took her under the blanket; then cAli came, and he took him under the blanket; then he recited: “Allaah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House)! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying[9][10].)).[9] Holy Qor’aan = soorah 33, aayah 33.[10] Mosannaf / Ibn Abi Shaybah = vol. 6, page 370. 6. A large number of Bakri ahaadeeth clearly limits members of Ahl al-Bayt to those five, excluding others[11]. For instance, Bakri references record: ((When the aayah “Allaah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House)! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying[12] was revealed, Rasoolollaah called cAli, Faatimah, Hasan and Hosayn; then he covered them with a Khaybari blanket, and said: O Allaah! These are my Ahl al-Bayt. O Allaah! Keep away the uncleanness from them, and purify them a (thorough) purifying[13].)). [11] To read some of these ahaadeeth, see the following Bakri references: al-Esaabah / al-cAsqalaani = vol. 8, page 56. al-Esteecaab / Ibn cAbdelbarr = vol. 3, page 1100. Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, pages 484 and 485. Jaamic al-Bayaan fi Tafseer al-Qor’aan / al-Tabari = vol. 22, page 6. Tahdheeb al-Tahdheeb = vol. 2, page 258. It has also been narrated:  ((…And when Rasoolollaah saw the Blessing (revelation) descending, he said: Call for me! Call for me! Safiyyah asked: Whom O Rasoolollaah? Rasoolollaah said: My Ahl al-Bayt: cAli, Faatimah, Hasan and Hosayn)). (al-Mostadrak / al-Naysaaboori = vol. 3, page 159) [12] Holy Qor’aan = soorah 33, aayah 33. [13] Jaamic al-Bayaan fi Tafseer al-Qor’aan / al-Tabari = vol. 22, page 7.
  7. Ahmad b. Hanbal relates on the authority of Umm Salama, the Prophet's wife, that he said to Fatima one day: 'Bring me your husband and two sons.' When they had all come together he spread over them a mantle, and laying his hand over them, he said: 'O God, these are the people of the House of Muhammad! Let therefore your prayers and blessings descend upon Muhammad and the people of the House of Muhammad; for you are worthy of all praise and glory.' Umm Salama continued: 'I then lifted the mantle to enter in with them, but he pulled it away from my hand saying, "You too shall come to a good end".
  8. 3, page 159) [12]
  9. Neither cAa’eshah nor the other wives of Rasoolollaah did ever claim membership to Ahl al-Bayt, even though some of them were struggling to gain medals and seniority over Faatimah and other members of Ahl al-Bayt. On the contrary, they acknowledged Faatimah’s membership and admitted their exclusion[14]. For instance, Bakri scholars narrate from cAa’eshah(LAa)[15], Faatimah’s enemy, who said in a long hadeeth: ((…Indeed, I saw Rasoolollaah one day call cAli, Faatimah, Hasan and Hosayn; then he covered them with a cloth and said: O Allaah! These are my Ahl al-Bayt, so keep away the uncleanness from them and purify them a (thorough) purifying. So I went near them and said: O Rasoolollaah! Am I a member of your Ahl al-Bayt? And he said: Step back[16].)).
[14] All the ahaadeeth that name the five members of Ahl al-Bayt and state the exclusion of Rasoolollaah’s wives from Ahl al-Bayt, were narrated by either cAa’eshah or by Omm Salamah. The sentences that exclude the Prophet’s wives from Ahl al-Bayt differ in words, but provide the same meaning. The following are some examples: ((…I went near them and said: Am I a member of your Ahl al-Bayt? Rasoolollaah said: Step back.)). (Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, page 486) ((…And me? But, By Allaah! he [Rasoolollaah] did not agree and said: You are to a good ending [you will die a good person].)). (Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, page 485. Jaamic al-Bayaan fi Tafseer al-Qor’aan / al-Tabari = vol. 22, page 8) ((Am I a member of Ahl al-Bayt? Rasoolollaah said: You are my family, and these are my Ahl al-Bayt.)). (al-Mostadrak / al-Naysaaboori = vol. 2, page 451) ((…Count me with them. Rasoolollaah said: You are a member of my family.)). (Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, page 486. Jaamic al-Bayaan fi Tafseer al-Qor’aan / al-Tabari = vol. 22, page 8) ((Am I a member of Ahl al-Bayt? Saheeh / Ibn Habbaan = vol. 15, page 432) ((Am I a member of Ahl al-Bayt? Rasoolollaah said: You are in your position, and you are good.)). (al-Mocjam al-Kabeer / al-Tabaraani = vol. 9, page 25. Sonan / al-Termedhi = vol. 5, pages 351 and 663. al-Jaamic le Ahkaam al-Qor’aan / al-Qortobi = vol. 14, page 183. (Mosnad / Ahmad = vol. 6, page 292) ((Am I a member of Ahl al-Bayt? Rasoolollaah said: You are to a good ending.)). al-Mocjam al-Kabeer / al-Tabaraani = vol. 3, page 52; vol. 23, pages 249, 333 and 396. Mosnad / Abi Ya’li = vol. 12, page 451. [16] Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, page 486.
  10. Bakri references also narrate from Omm Salamah, Faatimah’s friend, who said:((One day Rasoolollaah came to my home, and said: Do not let anyone come in. Later Faatimah came, and I could not keep her away from her father; then Hasan came, and I could not keep him away from his grandfather and mother; then Hosayn came, and I could not keep him away from his grandfather and mother; then cAli came, and I could not keep him away. So they gathered, and Rasoolollaah covered them with the blanket that was on him and said: These are my Ahl al-Bayt, so keep away the uncleanness from them, and purify them a (thorough) purifying. Then, when they were all under the blanket, this aayah descended. So I said: O Rasoolollaah! And me? But, by Allaah! he did not agree, and said: You are to a good ending [you will die a good person][17].)). [17] Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, page 485. Jaamic al-Bayaan fi Tafseer al-Qor’aan / al-Tabari = vol. 22, page 8.
  11. There is not a single hadeeth in which the Prophet or the other members of Ahl al-Bayt mention the inclusion of the Prophet’s wives in Ahl al-Bayt. On the contrary, they only name themselves, as the only members. For instance, Bakri references narrate from Rasoolollaah, who said: ((This aayah was revealed about five people: About me, cAli, Hasan, Hosayn and Faatimah. “Allaah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O ahl al-Bayt (People of the House)! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying[18][19].)). [18] Holy Qor’aan = soorah 33, aayah 33. [19] Majmac al-Zawaa‘ed / al-Haythami = vol. 9, page 167. Tafseer al-Qor’aan al-cAzeem / Ibn Kothayr = vol. 3, page 486. Jaamic al-Bayaan fi Tafseer al-Qor’aan / al-Tabari = vol. 22, page 6.
  12. Therefore, today, Bakri references contain a significant number of these narrations; for instance they narrate from Ibn cAbbaas, cOmar’s first secretary, who said: ((During nine months, I witnessed Rasoolollaah go everyday at the time of every salaat—five times a day—to the door of cAli ibn Abi Taalib, saying: Assalaamo cAlaykom wa Rahmatollaah wa Barakaatoh (peace and Allaah’s Mercy and Blessing be upon you) O Ahl al-Bayt! “Allaah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House)! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying[20]”. salaat! May Allaah be Merciful to you[21].)). [20] Holy Qor’aan = soorah 33, aayah 33. [21] al-Dorr al-Manthoor / al-Soyooti = vol. 5, page 199. Others have also narrated similar ahaadeeth, varying in the period of time during which they were with the Prophet. Some of them narrate that they witnessed him going to Faatimah’s door and reciting the Aayah of Tat-heer, everyday for seventeen months. To read some of these ahaadeeth see the following Bakri references: al-Esteecaab / Ibn cAbdelbarr = vol. 4, page 1542. Fadaa’el al-Sahaabah / Ibn Hanbal = vol. 2, page 761. 13. ((When this aayah descended, someone asked Rasoolollaah: O Rasoolollaah! Who are these people whose love has become mandatory for us? Rasoolollaah said: cAli, Faatimah, and their two sons[47].)). [47] Fadaa’el al-Sahaabah / Ibn Hanbal = vol. 2, page 669. Fayd al-Qadeer / al-Monaawi = vol. 1, page 219. (al-Ghadeer / al-Ameeni = vol. 2, page 307)
  14. Bakri scholars also narrate from Rasoolollaah who said: ((Indeed, Allaah has made mandatory for you, as my reward, the love for my Ahl al-Bayt; and I will, surely, ask you tomorrow (in the Hereafter) about them[48].)).[48] Jawaahir al-cEqdayn / al-Samhoodi = page 245. al-Sawaaceq al-Mohreqah / Ibn Hajar = pages 171 and 228. Dhakhaa’er al-cOqbaa / al-Tabari = page 25. Waseelat al-Motacabbedeen / Omar ibn Mohammad = vol. 5, page 199.
  15. Bakri and Moslem scholars narrate: ((When Faatimah died, cAli composed the following poem:  My soul is the captive of my sighs, I wish it left [my body] along with the sighs. There is nothing good in life after you [r death], and indeed I weep fearing that my life becomes long. And when he shook the dust off his hand after burring Faatimah, a new wave of grief erupted inside him, and while tears streamed down his cheeks he turned his face towards Rasoolollaah’s grave and said: Peace be upon you O Rasoolollaah! from me, and from your daughter who just descended to your proximity, and who joined you so soon. O Rasoolollaah! my patience in the absence of your true friend has reduced, and my endurance has thinned; except that your great separation and grave calamity (Rasoolollaah’s death) is my only consolation, for surely I was the one who laid you in your grave, and between my throat and my chest your soul left your body; “Surely we are Allaah’s and to Him we shall surely return[25]”.The deposit[26] has surely been returned, and the pledge has been taken back! As for my sorrow, it is eternal; and as for my night, it is sleepless; until Allaah chooses for me your home in which you reside. And your daughter shall inform you of your nation assisting each other in her oppression; so ply her with questions, and ask her about it (for surely numerous burnings are agitating in her chest about which she could not find a way to speak[27]). And peace be upon you O Rasoolollaah from one who says farewell, who is neither bored nor hateful. So if I leave, it is not because of weariness; and if I stay, it is not because I doubt what Allaah has promised the patient. (And patience is more favorable and more graceful. And if it were not for the dominance of the usurpers over us, I would have certainly stayed next to your grave; and I would have surely wailed the wailing of a woman bereaved of her son, because of the graveness of the disaster. So in the eyes of Allaah, your daughter is secretly buried?!! And her right is forcefully usurped?!! And her inheritance is openly withheld?!![28]) [29])). [25] Holy Qor’aan = soorah 2, ayah 156. [26] Before his death, when Rasoolollaah called for cAli and Faatimah, he placed Faatimah’s hand in cAli’s hand telling him: O Abaa al-Hasan! Allaah’s deposit, and His messenger’s deposit is with you, so keep it safe. [27] Behaar al-Anwaar / al-Majlesi = vol. 43, page 193. 25. Imam Hasan (a.s.), was the most similar person to the Apostle of Allah, in form, manner and nobility. No one was more like the Apostle of Allah, than Imam Hasan ibne Ali, peace be on them. Fatima (s.a.) brought her two sons, al-Hasan and al- Husayn, peace be on them, to the Apostle of Allah, at the time when he was suffering from the sickness from which he died. "Apostle of Allah," she said, "these are your two (grand) sons. Give them something as an inheritance." "As for al-Hasan," he replied, "he has my form and my nobility. As for al-Husayn, he has my generosity and my bravery."
  26. Da'awat Ar Rawandi: Swaid Ibn Ghafla said:
"Once, Ali (A) was inflicted with hardship; so Fatima (A) knocked on the Messenger of Allah's door, who said: `I hear the movement of my beloved one near the door, Umme Ayman get up and see!'
Umme Ayman opened the door and Fatima entered the house.
The Prophet then said: 'You have come to us at a time that you have not previously come!'
Fatima said: `Messenger of Allah, what is the angels food near our Lord?'
The Messenger of Allah said: `By Him Who holds my soul in His hand, fire has not been lit (in our house) for a whole month; yet, I will teach you five statements which Gabriel taught me.'
She (A) said: `Messenger of Allah, what are these five statements?'
    The Prophet (S) said: `O Lord of the First and Last;
    O You Possessor of Might, and Strength;
    O You Who is Merciful with the poor;
O You most Beneficent, most Merciful. "'
(Note: It appears as if the fifth statement has been mistakenly erased.)
  27. Thereafter Fatima returned and Ali (A) saw her and exclaimed:
"May my father and mother be your sacrifice, Fatima; what have you to tell me?"
  28. She said: "I went seeking worldly things, but have returned (with the goodness of) the hereafter."
Ali (A) then said: "Expect goodness, expect goodness!"
  29. Sayeda Fatima (as) delivered her firstborn, healthy baby boy at age 12. The midwives wrapped him in a yellow cloth, and presented him to his grandfather, the Holy Prophet (pbuh) of Islam (pbuh) who read the adhan in his right ear and the iqama in his left. The Prophet (pbuh) was displeased, and removed the yellow cloth, replacing it with a white one. At the time, nobody knew the reason for this, but modern experiments in psychology have shown that the color yellow makes newborns anxious and nervous, while white makes them feel calm and secure. Fatima (as) and Ali (as)asked the Prophet (pbuh) to name the child. The angel Gabriel revealed to the Prophet, that he should name him Shubbar, after the progeny of the Prophet (pbuh) Aaron, since Imam Ali (as) held the same position to the Prophet (pbuh) as Aaron to Moses, except there would be no Prophet (pbuh) after him. However, the Prophet (pbuh) replied to Gabriel that his tongue was Arabic, (he was an Arabic speaker). Gabriel then told him to call him Al Hassan (as), by the order of Allah, lord of the worlds.
  30. Allaah reveals: ((O Mohammad! if it were not for you, I would not have created the universe; and if not for cAli, I would not have created you; and if not for Faatimah, I would not have created either of you[10].)).
  31.  ((Verily, I have not created any erected sky nor any flattened land nor any illuminating moon nor any shining sun nor any circling planet nor any flowing sea nor any sailing ship but for the love of these five [Mohammad, cAli, Faatimah, Hasan and Hosayn][11].)).
  32. Bihar v.10: It is reported in Al-Kafi that Imam Sadiq (A) said:
'Once, Fatima approached Allah's Messenger with a problem. The Prophet listened to her problem and gave her a wrapped piece of material and said: `Learn that which is written in it.' (When she opened it) she found written in it:
"He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, shall not harm his neighbor.
He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, shall honor his guest.
He who believes in Allah and the Last Day shall say that which is useful or keep silent.'"
  33. Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 5.546 (page 381):
... She (Fatimah (AS)) remained alive for six (6) months after the death of the Prophet (PBUH). When she died, her husband Ali buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer himself ...
  34. Also the reknowned Sunni Historian Tabari writes:
Abu Salih al Dirari- Abd al Razzaq b. Hammam- Mamar- al Zuhri - Urwah- Aishah: Fatimah and al Abbas came to Abu Bakr demanding their [share of] inheritance of the Messenger of God. They were demanding the Messenger of Gods's lan in Fadak and his share of Khaybar ['s tribute]. Abu Bakr replied, "I have heard the Messenger of God say: 'Our [i.e the prophet's property] cannot be inherited and whatever we leave behins is alms [i.e to be given in charity]. The family of Muhammad will eat from it. ' By God, I will not abandon a course which I saw the Messenger of God practicing, but will continue doing it accordingly." Fatimah shunned him and did not speak to him about it untill she died. Ali buried her at night and did not permit Abu Bakr to attend [her burial].

  35. In this connection, Umm Jafar, the daughter of Muhammad ibn Jafar, narrated about the request of Fatima (as) to Asma bint Umays near her death that:
When I die, I want you and Ali to wash me, and do not allow anyone to go into me (in my house). When she died Aishah came to enter, Asma told her, ' Do not enter, ' Aishah complained to Abu Bakr saying, This Khathamiyyah (a woman from the tribe of Katham, i.e Asma) intervenes between us and the daughter of Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF).
Then Abu Bakr, came and stood at the door and said:
O Asma, what makes you prevent, thw wives of the Prophet from entering into the daughter of the Messenger of Allah? Asma replied:
She had herself ordered me not to allow anyone to enter into her. Abu Bakr said:
Do what she has ordered you. Sunni references:- Hilyatul Awliya, vol 2 p 43

  76. Safiah Bint Abdul Muttalib, the Prophet's aunt, accompanied Fatima Zahra to Uhud. When Fatima heard of her father's injuries, she started crying and the Hashimite women rushed to help her.Fatima's arrival at the scene of the battle, coincided with the Prophet's inspection of his soldiers, to find out how many had been martyred and wounded. When he reached Hamza, he found him in an indescribable situation; the infidels had badly mutilated his body; they had cut off his fingers, hands, legs, nose, ears, and ruptured his abdomen to get his liver out. They had also cut off his sexual organ and left him in that horrible position.    The scene of Hamza's defaced body brought sadness and pain to the Prophet's heart. The infidel had not abandoned any ugly method of mutilation, which they did not commit against the strong and steadfast supporter of Allah's Apostle, (Peace be upon him and Ahlul-Bayt). While the Prophet was deeply saddened by this infliction, his Aunt and Fatima were rushing towards the scene. As Soon as he noticed them, he covered Hamza's body with one of his garments. Safia and Fatima arrived and began crying and condemning the infidels for their crimes. They noticed that the Prophet's forehead was badly cut and that blood had become clotted on his face and beard; thus, Fatima Zahra started cleaning his face and said:  "Allah's punishment will be severe on him who caused the Messenger's face to bleed."
  77. Ali poured water on the Prophet's face, but this did not stop the bleeding, so Fatima burnt some rope and put its ashes on the cut, which stopped the bleeding. Fatima spent these moments in sadness and great anxiety. She was a faithful and devoted daughter to her father. When Ali (A) returned to Medina, he gave his sword to Fatima and said: "Take this sword Fatima; it surely proved itself to be most reliable today."  The Prophet added:"Take it Fatima, for surely your husband has fully performed his duty; Allah killed the heroes of the Arabs through his hands."
  78. "After you (Prophet s.a.w) inequities took shape & variant voices were raised so that if you were present and supervising, all these differences & deviations would not have taken place. You set off from amongst us and now our condition is like the earth which becomes devoid of the beneficial rains. And your nation upset the order & discipline of matters. So be witness & do not let their matter get out of sight." .
  79. Al-Majlisi, quoting Fural Ibn Ibrahim's interpretation of The Holy Quran in his book Al-Bihar, said: 'Abu Saeed al-Khudari said: One morning Ali Ibn Abu Talib woke up very hungry and said: 'Fatima, do you have anything to feed us?' She answered: `No, by Him who honored father with Prophet hood, and honored you with successor ship, we have nothing edible this morning, and we haven't had any food for two days save that which I have preferred to give you and our two children, Hassan and Hussain.' Ali (A) said: 'Fatima! Why didn't you tell me, so I could bring some food for you?'
  80. Fatima answered: 'Abu Al-Hassan, I surely become ashamed before my God to ask you to do something you cannot do. 'At this, Ali Ibn Abu Talib left Fatima, with full trust that Allah would help him. He borrowed a dinar, and while he was holding the dinar and trying to buy some food for his family, he came upon Miqdad Ibn Al Aswad. The sun had burnt Al-Miqdad's face and feet on that exceptionally hot day. When Ali (A) saw him, he exclaimed surprisingly: `Miqdad, what brings you out of your home at this hour?' Miqdad answered: 'Abu Al-Hassan, ask me not about what I have left behind in the house.' Ali (A) said: `My brother, I cannot leave you without knowing your problem.' Miqdad then said: 'Abu Al-Hassan, for Allah's sake and your sake leave me alone, and do not ask about my condition!!'   Imam Ali said: `My brother, you should not hide your condition from me.'  Miqdad replied: 'Abu Al-Hassan, now that you insist, by Him who honored Muhammad with Prophet hood and honored you with successor ship, nothing forced me out of my house save poverty. I left my children starving; when I heard their cries, there remained no place for me on earth-I have come out of my house in depression; this is my story.'  Imam Ali (A) cried when he heard the story; he cried until his beard was wet from tears and said: `By Allah, that which forced you out of your house and also forced me out of my house; I borrowed a dinar, but I prefer you to have it.'  When Imam Ali (A) had given the dinar to Miqdad, he went to the Mosque and performed his Dhuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon) and Maghrib (evening) prayers. When the Messenger of Allah had completed his prayers, he signaled Ali, who was in the first line, to follow him. Ali (A) obediently followed him out of the Mosque and after the Prophet greeted him said: 'Abu Al-Hassan, do you have some food for dinner so that I can accompany you?  Imam Ali was too shy to answer the Messenger; but the Prophet of Allah (S) had detailed knowledge about the dinar and what had happened to it; for Allah, the Exalted, had revealed to His Prophet to have dinner at Ali's house that night. When Ali did not answer, the Prophet said:  'Abu Al-Hassan, why don't you say no, so I may leave you; or yes, so I may accompany you?' Imam Ali (A) said: 'Accompany me!!'
  81. The Prophet then took Ali's hand and proceeded toward Fatima's house. When they arrived, Fatima was just finishing her prayers and there was a pan oil fire behind her. When she heard the Prophet coming, who was the dearest person to her, she greeted him and he wiped his hand on her head and said: `How is your evening, my daughter?' She answered: `Fine!' He then said: `Give us some dinner, may Allah bless you, and surely He has.' Fatima (A) placed the pan in front of the Prophet (S) and Ali Ibn Abu Talib...  At that moment, the Messenger of Allah put his hand on Ali's shoulder and said:  'Ali, this is a substitute for your dinar. This is a reward from Allah for the dinar; surely Allah grants whoever He wills without limit.'  The Prophet (S) cried and said: "Praise be to Allah, Who insisted on rewarding you in this world, too, and made you Ali-like Zakariya and Fatima like Maryam Bint Imran, for whenever Zakariya entered the Mehrab, he found Maryam with her subsistence."

Fatima (A.S.) felt grieved by Abu Bakr’s actions, and was so displeased with him that when she knew of his attempt to seize Fadak, she accompanied a group of women to the mosque. There she sat down and delivered the following speech:

    Praise be to Allah for that which He bestowed (upon us);
    And thanks be to Him for all that which He inspired; and commended in His Name for that which He Provided: Form prevalent favors which He created, And abundant benefactions which He offered and perfect grants which He presented; (such benefactions) that their number is much too plentiful to compute; Bounties too vast to measure; Their limit was too distant to realize;

    He recommended to them (His creatures) to gain more (of His benefaction) by being grateful for their continuity; He ordained Himself praiseworthy by giving generously to His creatures;

    I bear witness that there is no God but Allah Who is One without partner, a statement which sincere devotion is made to be its interpretation;

hearts guarantee its continuation, and illuminated in the minds is its sensibility. He Who can not be perceived with vision; neither be described with tongues; nor can imagination surround His state.

He originated things but not from anything that existed before them, and created them without examples to follow. Rather, He created them with His might and dispersed them according to His will; not for a need did He create them; nor for a benefit

(for Him) did He shape them, But to establish His wisdom, Bring attention to His obedience, manifest His might, lead His creatures to humbly venerate Him, and to exalt His decrees. He then made the reward for His obedience, And punishment for his disobedience, so as to protect His creatures from His Wrath and amass them into His Paradise.

I too bear witness that my Father, Muhammad, is His Slave and Messenger, Whom He chose prior to sending him, named him before sending him; when creatures were still concealed in that which was transcendental, guarded from that which was appalling and associated with the termination and nonexistence. For Allah the Exalted knew that which was to follow, comprehended that which will come to pass, And realized the place of every event.

    Allah has sent him (Muhammad)

(P.B.U.P.) as perfection for His commands, a resolution to accomplish His rule, and an implementation of the decrees of His Mercy. So he found the nations to vary in their faiths; Obsessed by their fires, Worshipping their idols, And denying Allah despite their knowledge of Him. Therefore, Allah illuminated their darkness with my Father, Muhammad, (P.B.U.P.) uncovered obscurity from their hearts, and cleared the clouds from their insights. He revealed guidance among the people; So he delivered them from being led astray, led them away from misguidance, guided them to the proper religion, and called them to the straight path.

Allah then chose to recall him back in mercy, love and preference. So, Muhammad (P.B.U.P.) is in comfort from the burden of this world, he is surrounded with devoted angels, the satisfaction of the Merciful Lord, and the nearness of the powerful King. So may the praise of Allah be upon my Father, His Prophet, Trusted one, the chosen one from among His creatures, and His sincere friend, and may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

(Fatima then turned to the crowd and said:) Surely you are Allah’s slaves

at His command Prohibition; You are the bearers of His religion and revelation; You are Allah’s trusted ones with yourselves; and His messengers to the nations.

    Amongst you does He have righteous authority;

A covenant He brought unto you, and an heir He left to guard you; That is The eloquent book of Allah; The truthful Quran; The brilliant light; The shining beam; Its insights are indisputable; Its secrets are revealed; Its indications are manifest; and its followers are blessed by it. (The Quran) leads its adherents to goodwill; and Hearing it leads to salvation; with it are the bright divine authorities achieved, His manifest determination acquired, His prohibited decrees avoided; His manifest evidence recognized, His satisfying proofs made apparent, His permissions granted, and His laws written. So Allah made belief to be purification for you from polytheism.

    He made:

Prayer - An exaltation for you from conceit.

Alms - A purification for the soul and a (cause of) growth in subsistence.

Fasting - An implantation of devotion.

Pilgrimage - A construction of religion.

    Justice - A harmony of the hearts;

Obeying us (Ahlul-Bayt) Management of the nation.

Our leadership (Ahlul-Bayt). Safeguard from disunity.

Jihad (struggle) - A strengthening of Islam.

Patience - A helping course for deserving (divine) reward.

Ordering goodness (Amr Bi Maruf) Public welfare.

Kindness to the parents - A safeguard from wrath.

Maintaining close relations with one’s kin-A cause for a longer life and multiplying the number of descendants.

Retaliation (Qesas) -For sparing blood (souls).

Fulfillment of vows - subjecting oneself to mercy.

Completion of weights and measures - A cause for preventing the neglect of others’ rights.

Forbiddance of drinking wine - An exaltation from atrocity.

Avoiding slander - A veil from curse.

Abandoning theft-a reason for deserveing chastity.

Allah has also prohibited polytheism so that one can devote himself to His Lordship.

    Therefore;

    Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam;

Obey Allah in that which He has commanded you to do and that which He has forbidden, for surely those truly fear among His servants, who have knowledge.

Lady Fatima Zahra (A.S) then added:

    0 People!

    Be informed that I am Fatima, and my father is Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) I say that repeatedly and initiate it continually; I say not what I say mistakenly, nor do I do what I do aimlessly. Now hath come unto you an Apostle from amongst yourselves; It grieves him that you should perish;

Ardently anxious is he over you; To the believers he is most kind and merciful.

Thus, if you identify and recognize him, you shall realize that he is my father and not the father of any of your women; the brother of my cousin (Ali A.S.) rather than any of your men. What an excellent identity he was, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his descendants.

    Thus, he propagated the Message, by coming out openly with the warning and while inclined away from the path of the polytheists, (whom he) struck their strength and seized their throats, while he invited (all) to the way of his Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching;

He destroyed idols, and defeated heroes, until their group fled and turned their backs.

So night revealed its dawn; righteousness uncovered its genuineness; the voice of the religious authority spoke out loud; the evil discords were silenced; The crown of hypocrisy was diminished; the tightening of infidelity and desertion were untied, So you spoke the statement of devotion amongst a band of starved ones; and you were on the edge of a hole of fire; (you were) the drink of the thirsty one; the opportunity of the desiring one; the fire brand of him who passes in haste; the step for feet; you used to drink from the water gathered on roads; eat jerked meat.

(Lady Fatima (A.S.) was stating their lowly situation before Islam)

You were despised outcasts always in fear of abduction from those around you. Yet, Allah rescued you through my father, Muhammad (P.B.U.H) after much ado, and after he was confronted by mighty men, the Arab beasts, and the demons of the people of the Book Who, whenever they ignited the fire of war, Allah extinguished it; and whenever the thorn of the devil appeared, or a mouth of the polytheists opened wide in defiance, he (P.B.U.H) would strike its discords with his brother (Ali A.S.), who comes not back until he treads its wing with the sole of his feet, and extinguishes its flames with his sword.

    (Ali is) diligent in Allah’s affair, near to the Messenger of Allah, A master among Allah’s worshippers, setting to work briskly, sincere in his advice, earnest and exerting himself (in service to Islam);

While you were calm, gay, and feeling safe in your comfortable lives, waiting for us to meet disasters, awaiting the spread of news, you fell back during every battle, and took to your heels at times of fighting. Yet, When Allah chose His Prophet from the dwell of His prophets, and the abode of His sincere (servants); The thorns of hypocrisy appeared on you, the garment of faith became worn out, The misguided ignorant(s) spoke out, the sluggish ignorant came to the front and brayed. The he camel of the vain wiggled his tail in your courtyards and the your courtyards and the Devil stuck his head from its place of hiding and called upon you, he found you responsive to his invitation, and observing his deceits. He then aroused you and found you quick (to answer him), and invited you to wrath, therefore; you branded other than your camels and proceeded to other than your drinking places. Then while the era of the Prophet was still near, the gash was still wide, the scar had not yet healed, and the Messenger was not yet buried.

A (quick) undertaking as you claimed, aimed at preventing discord (trial), Surely, they have fallen into trial already! And indeed Hell surrounds the unbelievers. How preposterous! What an idea! What a falsehood! For Allah’s Book is still amongst you, its affairs are apparent; its rules are manifest; its signs are dazzling; its restrictions are visible, and its commands are evident. Yet, indeed you have casted it behind your backs! What!

Do you detest it? Or according to something else you wish to rule? Evil would be the exchange for the wrongdoers! And if anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), it never will it be accepted from him; And in the hereafter, he will be in the ranks of those who have lost. Surely you have not waited until its stampede seized, and it became obedient. You then started arousing its flames, instigating its coal, complying with the call of the misled devil, quenching the light of the manifest religion, and extinguished the light of the sincere Prophet. You concealed sips on froth and proceeded towards his (the Prophet) kin and children in swamps and forests (meaning you plot against them in deceitful ways), but we are patient with you as if we are being notched with knives and stung by spearheads in our abdomens, Yet-now you claim-that there is not inheritance for us!

    What!

"Do they then seek after a judgment of (the Days of) ignorance?

But How, for a people whose faith is assured, can give better judgment than Allah? Don’t you know? Yes, indeed it is obvious to you that I am his daughter. O Muslims!

Will my inheritance be usurped? O son of Abu Quhafa! Where is it in the Book of Allah that you inherit your father and I do not inherit mine?

Surely you have come up with an unprecedented thing. Do you intentionally abandon the Book of Allah and cast it behind your back? Do you not read where it says:

‘And Sulaiman inherited Dawood’? And when it na,rates the story of Zakariya and says:

‘So give me an heir as from thyself; (One that) will inherit me, and inherit the posterity of Yaqoob’

    And:

‘But kindred by hood have prior rights against each other in the Book ofAllah’

    And:

‘Allah (thus) directs you as regards your children’s (inheritance) to the male, a portion equal to that of two females’

    And:

.If he leaves any goods, that he make a bequest to parents and next of kin, according to reasonable usage; this is due from the pious ones.’ You claim that I have no share! And that I do not inherit my father! What! Did Allah reveal a (Quranic) verse regarding you, from which He excluded my father? Or do you say:

‘These (Fatima and her father) are the people of two faiths, they do not inherit each other?’ Are we not, me and my father, a people adhering to one faith? Or is it that you have more knowledge about the specifications and generalizations of the Quran than my father and my cousin (Imam Ali)? So, here you are! Take it! (Ready with) its nose rope and saddled! But if shall encounter you on the Day of Gathering; (thus) what a wonderful judge is Allah, a claimant is Muhammad, and a day is the Day of Rising.

At the time of the Hour shall the wrongdoers lose; and it shall not benefit you to regret (your actions) then! For every Message, there is a time limit and soon shall you know who will be inflicted with torture that will humiliate him, and who will be confronted by an everlasting punishment.

(Fatima then turned towards the Ansars and said:) O you people of intellect!

The strong supporters of the nation! And those who embraced Islam; What is this short-coming in defending my right? And what is this slumber (while you see) injustice (being done toward me)?

Did not the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) my father, used to say:

‘A man is upheld (remembered) by his children’?

O how quick have you violated (his orders)?!

How soon have you plotted against us? But you still are capable (of helping me in) my attempt, and powerful (to help me) in that which I request and (in) my pursuit (of it). Or do you say:

"Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) has perished;" Surely this is a great calamity; Its damage is excessive

Its injury is great, Its wound (is much too deep) to heal.

The Earth became darkened with his departure; the stars eclipsed for his calamity; hopes were seized; mountains submitted; sanctity was violated, and holiness was encroached upon after his death. Therefore, this, by Allah, is the great affliction, and the grand calamity; there is not an affliction which is the like of it; nor will there be a sudden misfortune (as surprising as this).

The Book of Allah-excellent in praising him-announced in the courtyards (of your houses) in the place where you spend your evenings and mornings; A call, A cry, A recitation, and (verses) in order:

It had previously came upon His (Allah’s) Prophets and Messengers; (for it is) A decree final, and a predestination fulfilled:

"Muhammad is not but an Apostle:

Many were the apostles that passed away before him. If he died or was slain, will ye then turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heel, not the least harm will he do to Allah, but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude."

O you people of reflection; will I be usurped the inheritance of my father while you hear and see me?! (And while) You are sitting and gathered around me? You hear my call, and are included in the (news of the) affair?

(But) You are numerous and well equipped! (You have) the means and the power, and the weapons and the shields. Yet, the call reaches you but you do not answer; the cry comes to you but you do not come to help? (This) While you are characterized by struggle, known for goodness and welfare, the selected group (which was chosen), and the best ones chosen by the Messenger (P.B.U.H.) for us, Ahlul-Bayt. You fought the Arabs, bore with pain and exhaustion, struggled against the nations, and resisted their heroes.

We were still, so were you in ordering you, and you in obeying us. So that Islam became triumphant, the accomplishment of the days came near, the fort of polytheism was subjected, the outburst of fabrication subsided, the flames of infidelity calmed down, and the system of religion was well-ordered. Thus, (why have you) become confused after clearness? Conceal matters after announcing them? Turned on your heels after daring? Associated (others with Allah) after believing?

Will you not fight people who violated their oaths? Plotted to expel the Apostle and became aggressive by being the first (to assault) you?

Do ye fear them? Nay, it is Allah whom you should more justly fear, if you believe! Nevertheless, I see that you are inclined to easy living; dismissed he who is more worthy of guardianship (Ali A.S.); you secluded yourselves with meekness and dismissed that which you accepted. Yet, if you show ingratitude, you and all on earth together, yet, Allah free of all wants worthy of all praise. Surely I have said all that I have said with full knowledge that you intent to forsake me, and knowing the betrayal which your hearts sensed. But, it is the state of soul, the effusion of fury, the dissemination of (what is) the chest and the presentation of the proof Hence, Here it is!

Bag it (leadership and) put it on the back of an ill shecamel, which has a thin hump, with everlasting grace, marked with the wrath of Allah, and the blame of ever (which leads to) the Fire of (the wrath of) Allah kindled (to a blaze), that which doth mount (right) to the hearts; For, Allah witnesses what you do, and soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take!! And I am the daughter of a Warner (the Prophet P.B.U.H.) to you against a severe punishment. So, act and so will we, and wait, and we shall wait." (The end of Lady Fatima’s speech.)

It appears from recorded historical events, that Lady Fatima (A.S.) was successful at the beginning in persuading Abu Bakr to hand back Fadak to her; listen to part of a speech he (according to some historians) delivered after hearing Fatima’s speech. He said:

"0 daughter of the Messenger of Allah... Surely the Prophet is your father, not anyone else’s, the brother of your husband, not any other man ‘s; he surely preferred him over all his friends and (Ali) supported him in every important matter, no one loves you save the lucky and no one hates you save the wretched. You are the blessed progeny of Allah’s Messenger, the chosen ones, our guides to goodness, our path to Paradise, and you-the best of women-and the daughter of the best of prophets, truthful is your sayings, excelling in reason. You shall not be driven back from your right...But I surely heard your father saying: ‘We the group of prophets do not inherit, nor are we inherited. Yet, this is my situation and property, it is yours (if you wish); it shall not be concealed from you, nor will it be stored away from you. You are the Mistress of your father’s nation, and the blessed tree of your descendants. Your property shall not be usurped against your will, nor can your name be defamed. Your judgment shall be executed in all that which I possess. This, do you think that I violate your father’s (will) ?"

Fatima then refuted Abu Bakr’s claim that the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) had stated that prophets couldn’t be inherited, and said:

    "Glory be to Allah!!

Surely Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H.) did not abandon Allah’s Book nor did he violate His commands. Rather, he followed its decrees and adhered to its chapters. So do you unite with treachery justifying your acts with fabrications? Indeed this-after his departure-is similar to the disasters which were plotted against him during his lifetime. But behold! This is Allah’s Book, a just judge and a decisive speaker, saying:

‘One that will (truly) inherit Me, and inherit the posterity of Yaqub,’

    and

    ‘and Sulaiman inherited Dawood.’

Thus, He (Glory be to Him) made clear that which He made share of all heirs, decreed from the amounts of inheritance, allowed for males and females, and eradicated all doubts and ambiguities (pertaining to this issue which existed with the) bygones.

    Nay!

But your minds have made up a tale (that may pass) with you, but (for me) patience is most fitting against that which you assert; it is Allah (alone) whose help can be sought."

It is apparent that Abu Bakr chanced the mode with which he addressed Lady Fatima ~ after delivering her speech. Listen to his following speech; which is his reply to Fatima’s just reported speech.

    Abu Bakr said:

"Surely Allah and His Apostle are truthful, and so has his (the Prophet’s) daughter told the truth. Surely you are the source of wisdom, the element of faith, and the sole authority. May Allah not refute your righteous argument, nor invalidate your decisive speech. But these are the Muslims between us-who have entrusted me with leadership, and it was according to their satisfaction that I received what I have. I am not being arrogant, autocratic, or selfish, and they are my witnesses."

Upon hearing Abu Bakr speak of the people’s support for him, Lady Fatima Zahra (A.S.) turned towards them and said:

    "0 people,

Who rush towards uttering falsehood and are indifferent to disgraceful and losing actions!

Do you not earnestly seek to reflect upon the Quran, or are your hearts isolated with locks? But on your hearts is the stain of the evil which you committed; it has seized your hearing and your sight, evil is that which you justified, cursed is that which you reckoned, and wicked is what you have taken for an exchange! You shall, by Allah, find bearing it (to be a great) burden, and its consequence disastrous. (That is) on the day when the cover is removed and appears to you what is behind it of wrath. When you will be confronted by Allah with that which you could never have expected, there will perish, there and then, those who stood on falsehoods."

Although parts of Abu Bakr’s speeches can not be verified with authentic evidence, and despite the fact that we have already mentioned part of the actual speech which Abu Bakr delivered after Lady Fatima’s arguments, it appears certain that Abu Bakr was finally persuaded to submit Fadak to her.

Nevertheless, when Fatima was leaving Abu Bakr’s house, Umar suddenly appeared and exclaimed:

"What is it that you hold in your hand?"

Abu Bakr replied: "A decree I have written for Fatima in which I assigned Fadak and her father’s inheritance to her."

Umar then said: "With what will you spend on the Muslims if the Arabs decide to fight you?"

Umar then seized the decree and tore it up.
After the Prophet's death, events continued to occur. When studying the era following the Prophet's death, history speaks of the wonders, which occurred.

Indeed, history tells us about "Apostasy" which included the majority of Muslims who objected to Abu Bakr's seize of power from its righteous candidate, Ali Ibn Abu Talib (A).

It also tells us how Fatima's rights were usurped- especially in Fadak-and how Ali was dragged to the Mosque to pay allegiance to Abu Bakr!!

History tells us how Fatima's house was set on fire by him who yesterday pretended not to believe in her father's death.

Yes, history tells us how the Prophet (S) died and with him died his repeated warnings to those who would oppress his family members and that they will be met with the wrath of Allah. It also tells us of Lady Fatima's sadness and misery which she suffered after the death of her dear father.

Fidhdha, Fatima's helper, spoke of Fatima's sadness; she said:

"It was on the eighth day after the Prophet's death that Fatima revealed the extent of her sadness and inability to bear life without her father. She (A) came to the Mosque and while crying said:

    `Oh! Father

    Oh! My sincere friend

    Oh! Abu Al-Qasim

Oh! The helper of the widowed and the orphans

Who do we have for Kaaba and the Mosque?

Who does your saddened and grieved daughter have?"

    Fidhdha added:

"Fatima (A) then proceeded towards the tomb of the Prophet; it was difficult for her to walk because her tears covered her eyes. When she saw the Mizaneh, she passed out; so the women rushed to rescue her; after putting water of her face, she regained consciousness; Fatima then said:

    `My strength has been eradicated

    My endurance has betrayed me

My enemies have rejoiced at my misfortune

And my grief will kill me

Father! I remain bewildered and lonely

    Confused and lonesome

    My voice is subdued

    My back is broken

    My life is disturbed

I find no one, Father, after you to attend to my loneliness

    Neither to stop my tears

Nor to support me in times of weakness

Surely precise revelations, the place of Gabriel's descendence and Michael's location have vanished after you

    Father,

    Motives (of others) have changed

And gates have been shut in my face

Thus, I detest this world after you

And my tears shall be shed for you as long as breath continues to exist in me

My longing for you shall not cease

My sadness for (being separated from) you shall not vanish

    Fatima then cried out loudly:

    Father!!

With you went the light of the world

Its flowers wither away after blossoming in your presence

    Father!!

I will forever be sorrowful for you until we are reunited

    Father!!

Sleeping has left me since we have been separated

    Father!!

Who is there for the widows and the orphans

Who will we have for the Ummah until

    The Day of Rising?!

    Father!

    We became-after you-among the oppressed

    Father!!

    People shun us after you

After we were glorified by your presence among men

Thus, what tear shall not spill on your departure?

What sadness (after you) shall not continue to exist?

Which eyelid shall be smeared with slumber?

You are the spring of faith and the light of Prophets

So how can mountains not sway?

    And seas not dry out?

How can the Earth not tremble?

Father! I have been afflicted with the greatest sorrow, and my disaster is not minor!

    Father!!

I have been inflicted with the greatest misfortune and the biggest calamity

Angels cry for you, and stars cease to move because of you

Your minbar (after you) is gloomy, Your minbar is empty

Of your secret conversation (with your Lord)

Your grave is joyful for holding you

And Paradise is delighted with your presence

    Supplication and prayers

    Father!!

How gloomy are your meeting places (without your presence)!!

How pained I am for you, until I soon join you!!

How bereaved is Abu Al-Hussan, The entrusted one!!

The Father of your two sons, Al-Hassan and Al-Hussain; your beloved one

He whom you brought up as a youth, and made your brother as a man (Abu Al-Hassan)

The most beloved of your companions to you

Abu Al-Hassan, who was the first to immigrate and help you

Sadness has overtaken us; Crying will kill us

And distress will always accompany us.'

Lady Fatima (A) then returned to her house and lived in misery and sadness until she joined her beloved father not long after he passed away."
  83. Sheikh Amini (may Allah bless his soul) listed forty-five (45) sources in v.3 of Al-Ghadeer which state that the verse was revealed regarding Ali, Fatima, Al-Hassan and Al-Hussain (A). They are: Imam Ahmad, Ibn al-Mundir, Ibn Abu Hatim, Tabari, Ibn Mardawaih, Tha'labi, Abu Abdullah al-Mula, Abu Sheikh Nisaee, Wahidi, Abu Nu'aym, Bagawi, Bazaz, Ibn Maghazili, Hasakani, Muhib al-Deen, Zamakhshari, Ibn Asaker, Abu al-Faraj, Hamueeni, Nishabouri, Ibn Talhe, Razi, Abu al-Saoud, Abu Hayan, Ibn Abu al-Hadeed, Baidhawi, Nasfi, Haithami, Ibn Sabagh, Ganji, Manawi, Qastalani, Zarandi, Khazin, Zargani, Ibn Hajar, Samhoudi, Suyuti, Safuri, Saban, Shab Lanje, Handhrami, and Nabhawi.
Hadhrat Fatimah (AS) the only surviving child of the Prophet, his most beloved, claimed inheritance of the properties in the lands of Medina, Khaibar, and also Fadak, which were acquired by Prophet from the Jews without the use of force. The Prophet (PBUH&HF) had already given her those properties in order to maintain Ahlul-Bayt and their followers, in accordance with the commands of Allah. However they were confiscated after the death of prophet (PBUH&HF).
  84. Now, my brother, how can Ijma'a exist on this important issue when the Messenger of Allah oppose it? This is enough for us to close the issue of Ijma'a on this subject. However let us, now, go a little further:

Even the companions did not all agree that all these four individuals are the legitimate successors of the Prophet (PBUH&HF). Muslims agree that the caliphate of Abu Bakr came through election by a limited number of people and was a surprise for all other companions. By limited, I mean, a majority of the prominent companions of prophet had no knowledge of this election. Ali, Ibn Abbas, Uthman, Talha, Zubair, Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas, Salman al- Farsi, Abu Dhar, Ammar Ibn Yasir, Miqdad, Abdurrahman Ibn Owf were among those who were not consulted or even informed of. Even Umar confessed to the fact that the election of Abu Bakr was without consultation of Muslims. (See sahih al-Bukhari, Arabic-English, v8, Tradition #817)

My dear brother, we can not close our eyes to the undeniable facts documented even by the Sunni scholars, and yet claim to have Ijma'a. After the demise of the Prophet (PBUH&HF), those who heed what the Messenger of Allah ordered them such as Ammar Ibn Yasir, Abu-Dhar al-Ghafari, Miqdad, Salman al-Farsi, Ibn Abbas, and others such as al-Abbas, Utbah Ibn Abi Lahab, Bara Ibn Azib, Ubay Ibn Ka'b, Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas ... etc., all gathered in the house of Fatimah (AS). Even Talha and al-Zubair were loyal to Imam Ali at the beginning and joint the others in the house of Fatimah (AS). They assembled in the house of Fatimah as a place of refuge since they were opposing the majority of people. According to the authentic traditions in Sahih al-Bukhari, Umar confessed that the Imam Ali (AS) and his followers OPPOSED Abu Bakr.

    Al-Bukhari narrated:
Umar said: "And no doubt after the death of the Prophet we were informed that the Ansar disagreed with us and gathered in the shed of Bani Sa'da. 'Ali and Zubair and whoever was with them, opposed us, while the emigrants gathered with Abu Bakr."

    Sunni Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari, Arabic-English, v8, Tradition #817

Other Sunni traditionists narrated that on the day of Saqifah:

Umar said: "Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Zubair Ibn Awwam and those who were with them separated from us (and gathered) in the house of Fatimah, the daughter of the messenger of Allah."

    Also:

They demanded confirmation of the oath, but Ali and al-Zubair stayed away. Al-Zubair drew his sword (from the scabbard), saying, "I will not put it back until the oath of allegiance is rendered to Ali." When this news reached Abu Bakr and Umar, the latter said, "Hit him with a stone and seize the sword." It is stated that Umar rushed (to the door of the House of Fatimah) and brought them forcibly while telling them that they must give their oath of allegiance willingly or unwillingly.

Dear brother, let's just think a little! What kind of election was that?! Election implies choice and freedom, and that every Muslim has the right to elect the nominee. Whoever refuses to elect him does not oppose God or His Messenger because neither God nor His Messenger appointed the nominated person by people.

Election, by its nature, does not compel any Muslim to elect a specific nominee. Otherwise, the election would be coercion. This means that the election would lose its own nature and it would be a dictatorial operation. It is well known that the Prophet said: "There is no validity for any allegiance given by force."

Now let us see what Umar did on those days. Sunni historians reported that:

When Umar came to the door of the house of Fatimah, he said: "By Allah, I shall burn down (the house) over you unless you come out and give the oath of allegiance (to Abu Bakr)."

    Also:

Umar Ibn al-Khattab came to the house of Ali. Talha and Zubair and some of the immigrants were also in the house. Umar cried out: "By God, either you come out to render the oath of allegiance, or I will set the house on fire." al-Zubair came out with his sword drawn. As he stumbled (upon something), the sword fell from his hand so they jumped over him and seized him."

Sunni Reference: History of Tabari, English version, v9, pp 186-187 In the footnotes of the same page (p187) in the English version of the History of al-Tabari the translator has commented:

Although the timing is not clear, it seems that Ali and his group came to know about Saqifa after what had happened there. At this point, his supporters gathered in Fatimah's house. Abu Bakr and Umar, fully aware of Ali's claims and fearing a serious threat from his supporters, summoned him to the mosque to swear the oath of allegiance. Ali refused, and so the house was surrounded by an armed band led by Abu Bakr and Umar, who threatened to set it on fire if Ali and his supporters refused to come out and swear allegiance to Abu Bakr. The scene grew violent and Fatimah was furious. (See Ansab Ashraf, by al-Baladhuri in his , v1, pp 582-586; Tarikh Ya'qubi, v2, p116; al-Imamah wal-Siyasah, by Ibn Qutaybah, v1, pp 19-20).

Abu Bakr said on the authority of an authentic report that, after the demise of the holy Prophet when the people had paid fealty to him, Ali and Zubair used to go to Fatimah al-Zahra, daughter of the Prophet, for consultation. When this fact was known to Umar, he went to Fatimah and said:

"O' daughter of the Prophet! I didn't love anyone as much as I loved your father, nor anyone after him is more loving to me as you are. But I swear by Allah that if these people assemble here with you, then this love of mine would not prevent me from setting your house on fire."

    Also it is reported that:

Umar said to Fatimah (who was behind the door of her house): "I know that the Prophet of God did not love any one more than you, but this will not stop me to carry out my decision. If these people stay in your house, I will burn the door in front of you."

In fact Shibli Numani himself testifies the above event in the following words:

"From Umar's irritable and peevish temperament such an action on his part was not improbable."

    It is also reported that:
Abu Bakr said (on his death bed): "I wish I had not searched for Fatimah's house, and had not sent men to harass her, though it would have caused a war if her house would have continued to be used as a shelter."

The historian named the following people among those who attacked the house of Fatimah to disperse people who sheltered there:

    - Umar Ibn al-Khattab
    - Khalid Ibn Walid
    - Abdurrahman Ibn Ouf
    - Thabit Ibn Shammas
    - Ziad Ibn Labid
    - Muhammad Ibn Maslamah
    - Salamah Ibn Salem Ibn Waqash
    - Salamah Ibn Aslam

    - Zaid Ibn Thabit

The revered Sunni scholar, Abu Mohammad Abdullah Ibn Muslim Ibn Qutaybah Daynuri in his history of Caliphs known as "al-Imamah wa al- Siyasah" reported:

Umar asked for wood, and told those people inside the house: "I swear by Allah who has my soul in his hand, that if you do not come out, I will burn the house." Someone told Umar that Fatimah was inside the house. Umar said: "So what! It doesn't matter to me who is in the house."

Sunni reference: al-Imamah wa al-Siyasah by Ibn Qutaybah, v1, pp 3,19-20

Another Sunni historian, al-Baladhuri, reported that:

Abu Bakr asked Ali to support him, but Ali refused, then Umar went toward the Ali's house with a burning torch. At the door he met Fatimah who said to him: "Do you intend to burn the door of my house?" Umar said: "Yes, because this act will strengthen the faith brought to us by your father."

Sunni reference: al-Ansab Ashraf, by al-Baladhuri, v1, pp 582,586 Also Jouhari in his book said: "Umar and a few Muslims went to the house of Fatimah to burn it down and to burn those who were in opposition." Ibn Shahna said the same statement adding "to burn the house and inhabitants". Furthermore, it is reported that:

Ali and Abbas were sitting inside the house of Fatimah, Abu Bakr told Umar: "Go and bring them; if they refuse, kill them." Umar brought fire to burn the house. Fatimah came near the door and said: "O son of Khattab, have you come to burn our house on me and my children?" Umar replied: "Yes I will, by Allah, until they come out and pay allegiance to the Prophet's Caliph."

Everybody came out of the house except Imam Ali (AS), who said: "I have sworn to remain home until I collect the Quran." Umar refused but Lady Fatimah's remonstration caused him to return. He instigated Abu Bakr to pursue the matter, and he send Qunfuz (his slave) several times but received a negative reply each time. Ultimately, Umar went with a group of people to the Fatimah's house. When she heard their voice, she cried loudly; "O father, O Messenger of Allah, how are Umar Ibn al-Khattab and Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Quhafah treating us after you and how do they meet us."

The Sunni scholars, Ahmad Ibn Abdul Aziz al-Jawhari in his book 'Saqifah', Abu Waleed Muhibbuddin Mohammad al-Shahnah al-Hanafi in his book 'Rawdhat al-Manadhir Fi Akhbaar al-Awayil wal-Aawaakhir', Ibn Abil Hadid in his book 'Sharh al-Nahj', and others have reported the events to the same effect.

Also refer to the esteemed Sunni historian Abul Hasan, Ali Ibn al-Husain al- Mas'udi who in his book 'Isbaat al-Wasiyyah' describes the events in detail and reports that: "They surrounded Ali (AS) and burned the door of his house and pulled him out against his will and pressed the leader of all women (Hadhrat Fatimah (AS)) between the door and the wall killing Mohsin (the male-child she was carrying in her womb for six months)."

Salahuddin Khalil al-Safadi another Sunni scholar in his book 'Waafi al- Wafiyyaat' under the letter 'A' while recording the view of Ibrahim Ibn Sayyar Ibn Hani al-Basri, well-known as Nidhaam quotes him to have said: "On the day of 'Bay'aat' (paying allegiance), Umar hit Fatimah (AS) on the stomach such that child in her womb died."
  85. During her last days, when Abu Bakr and Umar sought the mediation of Imam Ali (AS) to visit the ailing Hadhrat Fatimah (AS), as quoted by Ibn Qutaybah, she tured her face to the wall when they greeted her and in response to their plea for appeasement reminded them of the prophetic declaration that one who displeases Fatimah (AS) has displeased the Prophet and finally said: "I take Allah and the angels to be my witness that you have not pleased me; on the other hand, you have angered me. When I shall meet the Prophet (PBUH&HF) I will complain about you two." (al-Imamah wa al- Siyasah, by Ibn Qutaybah, v1, p14).
  86. For the same reason, she willed that those who have hurt her should not participate in her funeral rites and that she be buried at night. al- Bukhari in his Sahih attests to this fact that Imam Ali (AS) complied with the will of Lady Fatimah (AS). al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Aisha that: ... Fatimah became angry with Abu Bakr and kept away from him, and did not talk to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death of the Prophet. When she died, her husband 'Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer by himself.

  87. In Sahih al-Bukhari the following has also been narrated by Aisha:
Fatimah the daughter of the Prophet sent someone to Abu Bakr (when he was a caliph), asking for her inheritance of what Allah's Apostle had left of the property bestowed on him by Allah from the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) in Medina, and Fadak, and what remained of the Khumus of the Khaibar booty. ...but Abu Bakr refused to give anything of that to Fatimah. So she became angry with Abu Bakr and kept away from him, and did not task to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death of the Prophet. When she died, her husband 'Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer by himself.

  88. In “al-Mabaani fi Sharh al-cOrwah al-Wothqaa = al-Nekaah, page 364” the “grand teacher” says that hurting Sayyedat Nesaa’ al-cAAlameen is not prohibited by Islam, where he states: ((…And the mere fact that it hurts Faatimah does not make it forbidden!!)).
This is despite the fact that countless Bakri scholars narrate many ahaadeeth from Rasoolollaah about Faatimah such as:
((And she (Faatimah) is a part of me, and she is my heart, and my soul that is between my sides. So whoever annoys her, he has surely annoyed me, and whoever annoys me, he has surely annoyed Allaah.)).
((Faatimah is a part of me, tires me what tires her.)).
((Faatimah is a part of me, saddens me what saddens her.)).
((Faatimah is a part of me, makes me suspicious what makes her suspicious.)).
((Faatimah is a part of me, angers me what angers her.)).
((Faatimah is a part of me, so whoever makes her angry, he has surely made me angry.)).
((Verily, Faatimah is a part of me, enrages me what enrages her and annoys me what annoys her.)). (To read more of these ahaadeeth with their Bakri references, see the section ‘Sayyedat Nesaa’ al-cAAlameen in the Holy Hadeeth’ of this book).
And in “Feqh al-Sheecah = vol. 3, page 126” the “grand teacher” states: ((And therefore we say that the first two usurpers of the khelaafah of Ameer al-Mo’meneen were Moslems, because they did not show hostility towards Ahl al-Bayt, but rather challenged them in coming to power, whilst recognizing their status and rank!!)).
  89. Bakri scholars also narrate:  ((When Idolaters asked Rasoolollaah to cut the moon in half for them, during Khadeejah’s pregnancy with Faatimah, Khadeejah said:What a failure for the person who accuses Mohammad of lying, when he is the greatest Messenger from my Lord.Suddenly Faatimah said from her womb: O Mother! do not worry and do not be afraid; Allaah is indeed with my father[21].)).
  90. Bakri scholars narrate from Rasoolollaah who said: ((Allaah indeed named her Faatimah, because He forbade her and those who love her to the fire of Hell[30].)).
  91. Bakri scholars also narrate from Rasoolollaah who said: ((The Almighty Allaah most assuredly forbade Faatimah, her children, and those who love them to the fire of Hell. And for that reason she was called Faatimah[31].)).
  92. Hazrat Khadeejah r.a made a number of requests from Rasoolollaah, amongst which was: ((And the third request O Rasoolollaah! I will make it to my daughter Faatimah, and she will tell you. When he left her room, she called Faatimah, telling her: O my darling, and the delight of my eye! Tell your father that my mother says:
  93. I am afraid of the grave, and I want you to shroud me in the robe that you always wear when receiving revelation. So Faatimah went to Rasoolollaah conveying her mother’s message. He then sent her his robe with Faatimah, which made her extremely happy. After she died, Rasoolollaah carried out the religious preparations before her burial himself, and when he wanted to shroud her with that special robe, Jabra’eel the angel of revelation descended telling him: Allaah sends you His greetings and says: O Mohammad! We will provide Khadeejah’s shroud, as she gave in our cause what she owned[35].)).
  94. It has been narrated that after Imaam cAli asked for Faatimah’s hand in marriage, Rasoolollaah said:   ((O cAli! Others asked me for her hand in marriage before, and I mentioned them to her, but saw disagreement and discontent in her face. So wait here until I ask her about your proposal. Thus Rasoolollaah left cAli waiting for the result, and went to his daughter Faatimah, saying: O Faatimah! cAli ibn Abi Taalib is a person whom you have known his relation, merit and the quality of his faith; and surely I have asked my Lord to make you the wife of His best creature and their most beloved to Him; and indeed cAli has mentioned the question of marriage with you, so what do you say?  She stayed silent and did not turn away her face, and he did not see in her face any sign of disapproval. So he said: Allaah is the greatest; her silence is her agreement[14].)).
  95. It has been reported in Bihar that Imam Ali (A) said:  "Once, the Messenger of Allah came to us while Fatima was sitting near the pot and I was cleaning some lentils; when the Prophet saw us he said: 'Abu Al-Hassan!' I said: 'At your service! O Messenger of Allah!' He then said: `Listen to me, for I say not save that which is the word of Lord: There is not a man who helps his wife in her housework, save that with very hair on his body a whole year of worship-during which he fasted the days and kept up the nights in prayer is counted for him....' Fatima (A) acquired her divine knowledge from the clear spring of Prophet hood and received the excellence of truth from the house of revelation. So her attentive heart was embellished with wisdom and her brilliant reason together with her brightness realized to the fullest extent the real meaning of every fact. Yet, despite the fact that Fatima heard an abundant volume of narrations from her father what has been reported on her authority is limited to certain issues. The reason for this will be explained later.
  96. `Worshipper of Allah, surely a thread of those garments is better than that on which the sun rises. "'
  97. Bihar v.10: Yazid Ibn Abdulmalik (Nawfali) quoted his father, who quoted his grandfather as saying: "Once, I entered the house of Fatima (A) who was the first to greet me; she then said:  `What brings you here?' I said: "I have come in search of blessing." Fatima then said: "My father (who was present) said: 'He who greets him or me for three consecutive days, will be granted Paradise by Allah.' I said: `While you are living?' She answered: 'yes, and after we are dead.'"
  98. Kashf al Ghumma:  Imam Ali (A) quoted Fatima as saying:  "The Messenger of Allah (S) said: 'Fatima, he who praises you, will be forgiven by Allah; Who will make him my companion where ever in Paradise I may be."
  99. Bihar v.10, quoting the previous source wrote:   The Prophet said: `When I saw her (Fatima), I remembered what would happen to her after my death. It is as if I (could see) humiliation entering her house, her sanctity violated, her right seized, her inheritance usurped, her side broken, and her unborn child being caused to be aborted, all while she is crying:   "Mohammad!"    'But she will not be answered, she asks for help but she will not be helped. Surely she will remain afflicted, sad and crying after me, remembering the cease of revelation from her father's house at one time, and remembering being separated from me another time. She will become estranged at night, when she used to spend listening to me reciting the Quran. She then will see herself humiliated after she was honored during the days of her father...'"
  100. Bihar v.6:  According to The Interpretation of The Quran written by Furat Ibn Ibrahim, Jabir Ibn Abdullah Ansari reported that Allah's Messenger (S) said to Fatima (A) during the illness, which caused him to pass away:  "May my father and mother be your sacrifice! Call your husband for me." Fatima then told Al-Hassan and Al-Hussain:   "Go tell your father to come, and that your grandfather summons him." Thus, Al-Hussain went and called him to come. When Ali Ibn Abu Talib (A) entered the house, he found Fatima sitting near Allah's Messenger (S) and saying:  'How distressed I am for your agony, Father!!' The Prophet said:  'There is no agony for your father after this day, Fatima. Yet, do as your father did when (his son) Ibrahim passed away: Then I said:    `Eyes spill tears, and the heart may be affected, but we shall not say that which angers the Lord. Yet, surely we are saddened by (your death) Ibrahim!!'"
  101. Bihar v. 10-Imam Sadiq (A) reported that Fatima (A) said:"When the following verse was revealed: 'Deem not Summons of the Apostle among yourselves like the summons of one of you to another,' (24: 63)    'I feared to call the Messenger of Allah, `Father'; so I began calling him Messenger of Allah. He ignored me two or three times and finally said: 'Fatima, this verse was not revealed about you or your family, nor does it include your progeny; for you are from me and I am from you. Rather, this verse was revealed regarding the vain and crude Quraishans who are arrogant and spendthrifts. Call me Father; it surely is better for the heart and more satisfying to the Lord.'"
  102. Masrouq reports that Aisha told him: "We, the Prophet's wives, were gathered around him when Fatima walked towards us; by Allah her walk is exactly the same as that of the Messenger of Allah when he saw her, he greeted her by saying: `Welcome my daughter.' He then asked her to sit to his right or left. He then whispered something to her that caused her to cry; when he saw her sadness, he whispered something else to her which caused her to laugh. (When I saw this) I said to her: `The Messenger of Allah bestowed you with a special secret, yet you cry?'  When the Prophet left I exclaimed: "What did he whisper to you? "Fatima answered: `I would not announce the secret of the Messenger of Allah!'   After the Prophet's death, I said to her: `I insist on you-by my right over you-to tell me (what he told you)!'
  103. She said: 'Yes, I will tell you now. The first time he whispered to me, he told me that Gabriel used to review the Quran with him once a year, but this year he reviewed it twice. So, he said, I think the time of my departure is near. Therefore, fear Allah and be patient, for I will be a good (person) to proceed you.' Fatima added: `so I cried, as you saw. When he noticed my sadness, he once again said to me: 'Fatima, is it not satisfying to you to be the Mistress of believing women (or the Mistress of the women of my Ummah)?"
  104. Bakri narration testifies: ((One day Hasan and Hosayn became ill, so their grandfather Mohammad along with Aboo Bakr, cOmar and a number of the Sahaabah[3] went to visit them. They told cAli: O Father of Hasan! You could make a Nadhr[4] for the cure of your sons.
Ali said: If my sons recover from their illness, I will fast three days as thanksgiving to Allaah. Then Faatimah said the same thing and Feddah said: If my masters regain their health, I will fast for Allaah three days.
So Allaah clothed the two boys with good health, at a time when the descendants of Mohammad did not have any food or money.
Thus cAli went to Sham’oon, a Jew from Khaybar, and borrowed a few kilos of barley. When he returned, Faatimah took one third of the barley, grinded it and baked five loafs of bread, one loaf for each person.
At night, when cAli returned home after praying with the Prophet, they sat to break their fast with barley bread. Suddenly there was a knock on the door, and someone said: Peace be upon you O Descendants of Mohammad. I am a very poor Moslem; feed me, may Allaah feed you from Heavenly food. So they gave him all their bread and thus they went with just water that evening having fasted all day. On the second day they continued fasting.
Later in the day, Faatimah took a second portion of the borrowed barley, grinded it and baked another five loafs of bread.
At night, when cAli returned home after praying with the Prophet, they sat down to break their second day’s fast. Suddenly there was a knock on the door, and someone said: Peace be upon you O Descendants of Mohammad! I am an orphan from Mohaajireen; my father was killed on the day of Aqabah. Feed me, may Allaah feed you from Heavenly food. So they gave him all their bread and tasted nothing but water. And on the third day the continued fasting.
Later in the day, Faatimah took the last portion of the borrowed barely, grinded it and baked another five loafs of bread.
On the third night, when cAli return after praying with the Prophet, they sat down to break their fast. Suddenly there was a knock on the door and someone said: Peace be upon you O Descendants of Mohammad! I am a captive (slave); feed me, may Allaah feed you from Heavenly food. So they gave him all their bread and tasted nothing except water.
On the fourth day, when they had fulfilled their Nadhr and finished their three days of fasting, cAli came to Rasoolollaah taking Hasan’s hand in his right hand and Hosayn’s hand in his left hand, while they were shivering from hunger like young birds.
When the Prophet saw them, he said: O Father of Hasan! how sorry I feel to see you in this condition. Let us go to my daughter. So they went home to see her in her mehraab[5], while her stomach was stuck to her back from hunger, and her eyes had caved in her head. When Rasoolollaah saw her he said: O Allaah! The descendants of Mohammad are dying from hunger.
Suddenly Jabra’eel descended and revealed to Rasoolollaah the seventy sixth Soorah[6] of the holy Qor’aan:
“There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning * Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing * Surely We have shown him the way: whether he may be thankful or thankless * Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire * Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup, the admixture of which is camphor * A fountain from which the servants of Allaah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth * They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide * And they give food, out of love for Him, to the poor and the orphan and the captive: * We only feed you for Allaah’s sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: * Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day * Therefore Allaah will guard them from the evil of that day, and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; * And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, * Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. * And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. * And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, * (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. * And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, * (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabeel. * And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. * And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. * Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. * Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. * Surely We Ourselves have revealed the Qor’aan to you, revealing (it) in portions. * Therefore wait patiently for the command of your Lord, and obey not from among them a sinner or an ungrateful one. * And glorify the name of your Lord morning and evening. * And during part of the night adore Him, and give glory to Him (a) long (part of the) night. * Surely these love the transitory and neglect a grievous day before them. * We created them and made firm their make, and when We please We will bring in their place the likes of them by a change. * Surely this is a reminder, so whoever pleases takes to his Lord a way. * And you do not please except that Allaah please; surely Allaah is Knowing, Wise; * He makes whom He pleases to enter into His Mercy; and (as for) the unjust, He has prepared for them a painful chastisement. *[7][8] )).
  1. Allah, the Exalted said: "If anyone disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge hath come to thee, say: `Come! Let us gather together; our sons arid your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves. Then let us invoke the curse of God on those who lie!'" (3: 61)
This event is famous and is known to all Muslims. Islamic scholars are united on the fact that it was revealed in regard to the Christian delegation who came from Najran to dispute the issue of Isa Ibn Maryam (A.S.) with the Prophet (P.B.U.H.). In v.6 of Bihar, Imam Ali (A.S.) mentioned the event in the following manner: A delegation of Najrani Christians led by three prominent men, Al-Aqib, Muhsen, and the Archbishop; these meet along with two prominent jews came to the Prophet (P.B.U.H.). They intended to argue with him; the archbishop started: "Abu Al-Qasim, who was Musa's father?" The Prophet answered: "Imran." The archbishop then said: "Who was Yusufs father?" The Prophet answered: "Yaqoub." The archbishop continued: "May I be your sacrifice; who is your father?" The Prophet answered: "Abdullah Ibn Abd al-Muttalib." Then the archbishop asked: "Who is Isa's (Jesus) father?" The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) waited a moment while Gabriel revealed the following to him: "(Say) he was the Spirit of Allah and His Word."
The archbishop then asked: "Can he be a spirit without having a body?" Again a revelation was sent to the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) the revelation is as follows: "The similitude of Isa before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: `Be.' And he was." When the archbishop heard this, he jumped in objection to the Prophet saying that Isa (A.S.) was created from dust, and said: "Muhammad, We don't find this to be in the Torah, the Bible, or in the Zabour. You are the first one to say this." This was the moment that the verse of Mubahala was revealed. After the delegation had heard the verse, they said: "Assign for us a solemn meeting (in which every side supplicates to Allah to curse the other side if they are followers of falsehood)." The Prophet's answer to this was: "Tomorrow morning, if Allah wills."
The next morning, the Prophet finished his morning prayers and ordered Ali to follow him and Fatima, in turn, holding Al-Hassan and Al-Hussain to follow Ali.
The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) then told them: "When I supplicate you should say: Amen."
When the delegation saw the holy family and that the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) had spread a mat for himself and family, they said to each other: "By Allah, he is a true Prophet; and if he curses us, surely Allah will answer his prayer and destroy us. The only thing that can save us, is to ask him to relieve us from this meeting." Razi, in his interpretation of the Holy Quran states: 'The Archbishop said: "O Christians, I surely see faces of men, who if they were to ask Allah to move a mountain, He would surely do it. Do not hold this meeting, or you shall be destroyed and no Christian will remain on Earth until the Day of Resurrection."
The delegation proceeded toward the Messenger and said: "Abu Al-Qasim, relieve us (from this) solemn meeting." The Prophet said: "Indeed I will; but the One who sent me with righteousness is my witness that had I cursed you, Allah would not have left a Christian on the face of the earth."
This has been a summary of the story. What matters to us here, is Allah's saying in the verse: "Our women and your women." All Muslims have agreed that the Prophet took Ali with him to represent "ourselves," Al-Hassan and Al-Hussain to represent "Our Sons," and Fatima Zahra to represent "Our Women," It is also a given fact that he did not accompany any other woman including his wives, his aunts, or any other Muslim women. This proves that there was not a woman as excellent, great, holy, and chaste as Fatima (A.S.) was. The Prophet called Fatima alone to join him, because she was the only woman capable of fulfilling the qualifications of the verse.
  2. Allah appointed him (as apostle) so that he may complete and finalise His matter and Implement His order and materialize His decrees and predestinates
  3. Depriving a rightful person of his rights brings destruction which is sad state of affairs .
  4. Never lose patience for undue treatment from tyrants & usurpers .
  5. O Fatimah(a.s.) intercede for us in heaven since you have reached a dignified status from a high rank with Allah(swt)
  6. When there is contest b/w right & wrong , staying behind cannot be acceptable .
  7. ((One of his (Rasoolollaah) companions went to her (Faatimah) home when she was grinding barley and reciting: “And what is with Allaah is better and more lasting[12]”. So she put on an old worn-out cloak that had been patched in twelve places with palm leaves. When she came out, Salmaan looked at her cloak and cried, saying: What a sadness; the Roman and Persian emperors are covered with sarcenet and silk, and Mohammad’s daughter is covered with an old worn-out woolen cloak patched in twelve places. Later when Faatimah met with the Prophet, she told him: O Rasoolollaah! Salmaan was surprised to see this dress. I swear by Him Who gave you the mission, in the past five years cAli and I have only had one animal skin on which our camel feeds during the day and we sleep during the night; and our pillow is of animal skin stuffed with leaves[13].)).
  8. ((The Prophet had prepared a new dress for Faatimah for her wedding night, as she only had a patched dress. And before the wedding, suddenly a beggar came to the door saying: I ask from the House of Prophethood a worn-out dress. So she wanted to give him her old patched dress, but she remembered the holy aayah[18]: “By no means shall you attain to righteousness until you spend (benevolently) out of what you love[19]; thus she gave out her wedding dress instead, and decided to wear her old patched dress in her wedding[20].)).
  9. ((After Rasoolollaah’s death a man came to Faatimah, saying: O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! Did Rasoolollaah leave anything with you that I can see? Faatimah said to her student: O Feddah! Bring me that piece of silken cloth. So she looked for it but could not find it. Faatimah: Woe on to you! Find it. To me it equals Hasan and Hosayn!! When she found the cloth, it was written on it: Prophet Mohammad said: He is not a believer whose neighbor is not safe from his calamity; and whoever believes in Allaah and the Hereafter should not annoy his neighbor; and whoever believes in Allaah and the Hereafter should say good things or remain silent. Indeed Allaah loves him who is charitable, forbearing and abstinent; and hates him who swears, uses obscene language and is a persistent demander. Indeed shyness is of faith and faith is in Heaven; and indeed indecency is of obscenity and obscenity is in Hell[24].)).
  10. ((I said to Faatimah: O my Lady, I want to ask you a question that stammers in my chest.
    Faatimah: Ask.
Aboo cOmar: Did Rasoolollaah appoint cAli as the Khaleefah before his death?
Faatimah: What a surprise! Have you forgotten the day of Ghadeer Khom?!
Aboo cOmar: No my Lady; but I want to know what Rasoolollaah told you.
Faatimah: I hold the Almighty Allaah as my witness that I heard him say: cAli is the best person whom I leave with you. And he is the Imaam and the Khaleefah after me. And my two grandsons and nine of Hosayn’s lineage are A’emmah[64].
If you follow them, you will find them learned leaders; and if you disobey them, there will be great conflict among you[65] until the Day of Judgment.
Aboo cOmar: O my Lady! so why did he (Ali) not get back his right?
Faatimah: O Abaa cOmar! Rasoolollaah said: The example of cAli is that of the Kacbah; people go to it and it does not go to people. Then she said:
But they gave precedence to whom Allaah had held back; and held back whom Allaah had given precedence to…
They appointed [a khaleefah] with their desire and acted according to their decisions. Woe unto them; have not they heard the Almighty Allaah say: “And your Lord creates and chooses whom He pleases; to choose is not theirs[66]”. They did hear, but as Allaah says: “For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the chests[67]”.
  11. It has been narrated that she said:  ((The two fathers of this nation are Mohammad and cAli. They straighten its bends, and deliver it from the continuous punishment (Hell) if it obeyed them; and they bring it the continuous bliss (Heaven) if it followed them[70].)).
  12. Bakri scholars narrate: ((Faatimah said to Asmaa’ bint cOmays (her student, and Aboo Bakr’s wife): I hate what is done with the body of a dead woman—they spread a cloth over her, and it shows her body. Asmaa’: O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! Do you want me to show you what I had seen in Ethiopia? Then she asked for some fresh palm branches striped of their leaves, she curved them and covered them with a cloth. Faatimah said: How great and nice this is! It dose not distinguish a woman from a man! So when I die, you and cAli wash me; and do not let anyone else enter the house. And when she died, cAa’eshah wanted to enter, but Asmaa told her: Do not come in. So she went to Aboo Bakr, complaining: This Khathcami[8] woman stands between us and Rasoolollaah’s daughter, and she has made for her something like a bride’s howdah. Aboo Bakr came and stood at the door, and said: O Asmaa’! what made you stop the Prophet’s wives from entering Faatimah’s home?! And why have you made a bride’s howdah for her?! Asmaa’: She ordered me not to let anyone inside. And when she was alive, I showed her this, and she ordered me to make one for her[9].)).  [9] al-Esteecaab / Ibn cAbdelbarr = vol. 4, page 1897. Dhakhaa’er al-cOqbaa / al-Tabari = page 53.
  13. Bakri scholars also narrate a most important and remarkable hadeeth from Salmaa, one of Faatimah’s students, without actually realizing its significance: ((In her illness, one morning Faatimah woke up in the best state we had ever seen her during her infirmity; and when cAli ibn Abi Taalib went out, she said: O woman! Pour some water for me to perform a ghosl[10]. Thus she performed the best ghosl I had ever seen her perform.
  14. She then said: Give me my new clothes, so I gave them to her.
  15. She then came to the room, and said: Spread my mattress in the middle of the room; and she lied down, putting her right hand under her right cheek, facing the Qeblah (direction of the Kacbah).
  16. She then said: O woman! I will shortly die. No one should uncover me, and no one should perform the Ghosl of the Deceased[11] on me. So she died where she was lying, and I told cAli what she had ordered me, and he said: By Allaah! No one will uncover her. He then carried her and buried her without performing the ghosl on her[12].)). [12] Dhakhaa’er al-cOqbaa / al-Tabari = page 53. Mosnad / Ahmad = vol. 6, page 461. Osd al-Ghaabah / Ibn al-Atheer = vol. 5, page 590. al-Tabaqaat al-Kobraa / Ibn Sacd = vol. 8, page 27.
  17. ((One day a woman came to Faatimah and said: I have an old weak mother who has made a mistake in her salaat, and has sent me to you to ask about it. So Faatimah answered the mother’s question.
And the woman asked a second question and a third question and a fourth question, until she asked her tenth question. Then wanting to ask yet more questions, she said to Faatimah: I do not want to annoy you more O Daughter of Rasoolollaah!
Faatimah: Come and ask whatever questions you wish to ask. Would it be difficult for a person who is hired for one hundred thousand gold Deenaars to take a heavy load to the roof?!
    The woman: No.
Faatimah: I was hired for more than what fills between the earth and the Arsh with pearls for every question I answer. So it is more appropriate for me not to feel the heavy load of these questions.
I heard my father say: When the scholars of our followers are resurrected, robes of honor are put on them to the extent of their knowledge, and their seriousness in guiding their people, such that any one of them would be given one million robes of light[27].
Then an angel announces: O you crowd of guardians of the orphans of Mohammad’s descendants! The revivers of the orphans after they were separated from their fathers who were their A’emmah[28]. These are your students and the orphans whom you guarded and revived and clothed with the robes of knowledge in the previous world.
The scholars are then given robes of light to the extent of what they had taught their orphans. They are given as many as one hundred thousand robes for a particular student.
And then the students themselves are given robes to the extent of what they had taught their own students.
Later Allah says: Repeat the process and give them more… So every teacher is given robes to the extent of what he had taught his students, and his students are then given robes to the extent of what they had taught their students, and so on.
Then Fatima said: O Servant of Allah! A thread of those robes is a million times more valuable than what the sun shines upon[29].)).
  18. 1-[29]      ((O Allaah! Protect us with Your eye which does not go to sleep; and Your support which will never be weaken; and with Your great names. And descend Your Blessing upon Mohammad and his descendents. And protect for us that which would be lost if someone other than You protects it; and conceal for us that which would be known if someone other than you conceals it; and make all of this conformable for us. You are indeed a Listener to the Docaa’, and a Fast Responder[30].)).
  19. 2-[31]      ((Praise be to Allah, He Whose Praise cannot be culminated by those who commend. And praise be to Allah, He Whose gifts cannot be counted by those whose expertise is to count. And praise be to Allah, He who cannot be recompensed by the continuous worship of the devout worshipers.
And there is no God except Allah, the First and the Last. And there is no God except Allah, the Evident and the Hidden. And there is no God except Allah, the Giver of Life and the Taker of Life.
And Allah is Greater, the Almighty. And Allah is Greater, the Eternal.
And praise be to Allah, He whose knowledge cannot be comprehend by the knowledgeable; and whose forbearance cannot be weakened by the ignorant; and whose praise cannot be culminated by those whose expertise is to praise; and whose attributes cannot be described by those whose expertise is to describe; and whose qualities cannot be adequately explained by His creatures.
And praise be to Allah, He who has the reign and the kingdom; and the grandeur and the mightiness; and the pride and the exaltedness; and the magnificence and the gravity; and the beauty and the prestige; and the power and the strength; and the force and the grace; and the victory and the merit; and the might and the justice; and the truth and the noble character; and the eminence and the highness; and the glory and the virtue; and the wisdom and the sufficiency; and the profusion and the expansion and the contraction; and the forbearance and the knowledge; and the conclusive proof; and the encompassing benefaction; and the graceful and beautiful commendation; and the noble spiritual gifts. The king of this world and the Hereafter and the Heaven and the Hell and all of what they include. Blessed be Him, Allah, and be He raised far above.
Praise be to Allah, He Who knows the secrets of the invisibles; and is aware of the sins that the hearts commit; so there is no way of escape and getaway from Him.
And praise be to Allah, He Who is the Proud in His rule; and is the Venerated in His Place; and is the Haughty in his Reign; and the Powerful in his Assault; and is the High over his Arsh; and is the Informed of His people; and attains whatever He wishes.
And praise be to Allah, He by Whose command the massive skies were upheld; and the flat lands became firm; and the unshakable deep-rooted mountains stood erect; and the pollinating air flew; and the clouds moved in the sky; and the seas stood at their limits; and the hearts became apprehensive of His fear; and the lords were subdued by His Lordship.
Blessed You are, O Who counts the rain drops; and the leaves of the trees; and the Giver of life to the corps of the dead for the resurrection.
Glory be to You, O You Who possesses the Exaltedness and Honor; what would You do to the stranger, the destitute if he came to You appealing for aid and asking for help?
What would You do to the one who remains at Your Court; and exposes himself to Your Approval; and comes to You, until he kneels between Your Hands, complaining to You of the things that are not hidden from You?
So do not let O my Lord! the outcome of my invocation to be deprivation, and nor my share of what I wish from you to be disappointment.
O He Who has not and will not vanish; and has been and will continue to be watching every soul as to what it attains.
O He Who has made the days of this world to pass, and its months to change, and its years to go round. And You are the Everlasting. The times do not afflict You, and nor do the worlds.
O He to Whom every day is new; and by Him every means of living for the weak and the strong and the tough are prepared. You have divided the means of living for the creatures, and have equaled between the small ant and the bird.
I ask of You O Allah! By these praises to forgive me, and pardon me, and cloth my body with health, and grant me soundness in my religion.
Thus I ask of You and I am confident of Your Response; and I call upon You and I know that You can hear my call; so listen to my call, and do not sever my hope, and do not refuse my laudatory, and do not block my call. I am in need of Your Satisfaction and of Your Forgiveness. I ask of You and I am not disheartened of Your Mercy, and call upon You while I am not being cautious of Your Discontentment.
O Lord! Fulfill my requests, and have favor on me with Your Forgiveness; and take my life as a Moslem and join me with the good. O Lord! Do not forbid me Your Kindness, O Beneficent! And do not make me depend on myself in abandonment, O Compassionate!
O Lord! Be Merciful to me when I leave my beloveds and die, and when I stay alone in my grave, and when I am a stranger in the desert on the Day of Resurrection, and when I stand in poverty between Your Hands in Your Court of justice.
O Lord! I seek refuge to You from the Fire, so give me refuge. O Lord! I seek Your Protection from the Fire, so protect me. I run to You from the Fire, so take me away.
O Lord! Being anguished, I seek Your Mercy, so have Mercy on me; O Lord! I seek Your Forgiveness for when I was ignorant, so forgive me.
Indeed docaa’ for my need has taken me to You, so do not disappoint me, O Bountiful! He Who has the Gifts, and the Benevolence and the Overlooking.
O My Master! O Beneficent! O Merciful! Grant my request amongst those who pray humbly to You; and have Mercy on my tears amongst those who cry to You; and on the day I leave this world, make my meeting with You as my Comfort; and conceal amongst the dead O He in Whom there are great wishes, my shameful acts; and have Compassion for me when I am being moved to my grave alone. You are my hope, and You are the one Whom I ask my needs from, and the one Who knows what I am going to ask Him; so fulfill my needs, O Fulfiller of needs!
So, to You is the complaint, and You are the Helper and the Giver of hope. I run to You fleeing from the sins, so accept me; and I seek refuge from Your Justice to Your Forgiveness, so aid me; and I seek shelter to Your Forgiveness from Your Assault so keep me away from it; and I seek Your Mercy from Your Punishment, so rescue me; and I seek to get close to You by Islam, so get me close.
And from the greater fear, so keep me safe; and in the shadow of Your Arsh, so shade me; and two shares of Your Mercy, so present to me; and safely from this world, so deliver me; and from the darkness to the light, so send me; and on the Day of Resurrection, so brighten my face; and with a light questioning, so question me; and with what I have concealed, so do not expose me; and for Your Affliction, so give me patience.
And just as You diverted the evil and the adultery from Yoosof[32], so divert it from me; and what I do not have the capacity for, so do not load on my shoulder; and to the House of Peace, so guide me; and by the Qor’aan, so benefit me; and by the firm belief, so make me firm; and from the accursed Shaytaan[33], so keep me safe; and by Your Strength and Power and Might, so shield me; and by Your Forbearance and Knowledge and broad Mercy, so rescue me from Hell; and in Your Heaven of Ferdaws, so house me; and looking at Your Face, so bestow upon me; and with Your Prophet Mohammad, so join me; and from the Shayaateen[34] and their followers and from all those who possess evil, so keep me away…[35])).
3-[36]      ((Glory be to Him for Whose Greatness everything became humble. Glory be to Him for Whose High Standing everything became low. Glory be to Him to Whose Control and Rule everything yielded. Glory be to Him Who is obeyed by everything.
Praise be to Allah Who does not forget whoever remembers Him. Praise be to Allah Who does not disappoint whoever prays to Him. Praise be to Allah Who is Sufficient for those who rely on Him.
Praise be to Allah Who is the Thickener of the sky; and the Builder of the earth; and Who limits the seas; and Who piles up the mountains; and Who creates the animals; and Who creates the trees; and who opens the earth’s springs; and Who arranges things; and Who moves the clouds; and Who causes the wind and the water and the fire to flow from the earth up to sky; and Who descends the heat and the cold.
The one with Whose Gift the good deeds are completed; and by thanking Him they are increased; and by His Order the skies started to exist; and by His Greatness the unshakable mountains stood; and the wild animals glorified Him in the deserts and the birds in the nests.
O Allah! I ask You by Your stored name, the pleasant, the pure, the one by which the skies and the earth started to exist; and the darkness was lit for it; and the angels glorified for it; and the hearts feared it; and the necks became humble for it; and the one by which You brought the dead back to life; to forgive every sin that I committed in the darkness of the night and in the light of the day, intentionally or inadvertently, in secrecy or in public; and to give me a conviction, and a guidance, and a light, and a knowledge, and an understanding so that I may implement your book, and allow what it allows, and prohibit what it prohibits; and to perform what You have made mandatory for me, and to practice Your prophet’s tradition.
O Allah! Join me with the virtuous of those who have passed away, and make me one of the virtuous of those who remain alive; and finish my deeds at its best; for You are the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful.
O Allah! If my life were to finish, and my days were to sever, and I were to meet you, so I ask You, O Kind! to put me in a place in Heaven where others will envy me.
O Allah! I entrust my religion and my soul and all the gifts You have given me to You; and so put me in Your shade, and in Your protection, and in Your might, and in Your prevention.
Your neighbor is mighty, and Your tribute is grand, and Your names are sanctified, and there is no God but You. You are Sufficient for me in joy and in sorrow, and in hard times and in prosperity; and You are the best [one who can be] in charge[37].)).
  20. ((…And when Allah chose for His Prophet the house of the prophets, and the adobe of His most sincere friends, the spite of hypocrisy appeared on you, and the garment of faith became worn out, and the silent aberrant spoke out, and the indolent of the inferiors emerged, and the wrongdoers’ most favored camel roared, so he wiggled his tail in your courtyards.
And Shaytaan raised his head from his hiding place calling upon you, and he found you answering to his call and looking into his deceit. Then he aroused you and found you quick to respond; and caused you to become angry, so he found you angry for his anger.
Thus you marked a camel which you did not own, and came to a drinking place other than your own.
This! and the memory is near?! And the wound is wide open?! And the injury has not healed?! And the Messenger has not been buried?!
…And the Book of Allah is among you. Its affairs are clear, and its rules are shining, and its signs are dazzling, and its prohibitions have been made clear, and its commands are plain; and you have surely left it behind you. Is it because you do not want it? Or is it because you judge according to something else? “Evil is (this) change for the unjust[83]”, “And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he shall be one of the losers[84][85]. )).
    She also said:
((O You crowd of Moslems who rush towards the uttering of falsehood, and agree to disgraceful and deviating actions, “Do you not then reflect on the Qor’aan?! Nay! On the hearts there are locks[86]”. “Nay! Rather what you have done has become like rust upon your hearts[87]”. So it has seized your hearing and your sight; and truly how vile is what you have pointed to; and how wicked is what you have taken for an exchange.
You shall, by Allaah, find bearing it a heavy burden, and its consequence a harsh punishment, when the cover is removed for you and appears to you what is behind it of wrath, and comes into your sight from your Creator what you had never expected, “And those who treated (it) as a lie were lost[88]”.)).
     She also said:
((…Verily I have said all that I have said with full knowledge of the betrayal that has mixed with you, and the treachery that has covered your hearts; but it is the effusion of distress, and cooling the rage, and the explosion of the chest, and the presentation of proof.
So here it is, load it on the injured back of a she-camel with thin hooves, with permanent disability, marked by the wrath of the Omnipotent, with eternal shame, which is lead to “The Fire kindled by Allah * Which penetrates the hearts[89]”.
Surely it is in the presence of Allah what you do, “And they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back[90]”.)).
  21. The following are some instances of her protests in her famous public speech in the mosque:((…Then you did not wait for its stampede to calm and until it obeys its reins, so you added fuel to its fire, and instigated its burning coal; and you complied with the call of the deceitful Shaytaan, extinguishing the lights of the clear religion, and suppressing the traditions of the Prophet. You show sincerity while concealing your own agenda, and you proceed towards his family and children in a secretive manner.
And we remain patient with you of things similar to cutting with a saw, and stabbing the stomach with a spear.)).
    She also said:
((O Moslems! Will my inheritance be usurped?! O Son of Abi Qohaafah! (Aboo Bakr), is it in the Book of Allaah that you inherit your father but I do not inherit my father?! You have surely come up with an unprecedented lie.)).
    She also said:
((So here is the she-camel, take it, with its nose rope and its saddle in place; it will see you on the day of your resurrection. Then, what an excellent Judge is Allaah, and what an excellent prosecutor is Mohammad. And the appointment is the resurrection day; and on the Hour shall the wrongdoers lose; and it shall not benefit you when you regret. “For every prophecy is a term, and you will come to know [it][91]”. “Who it is to whom there shall come a punishment which will disgrace him and to whom will be due a lasting punishment[92].)).
  22. ((Ali carried Fatima the Daughter of Rasoolollaah on a riding animal, at night, to the gathering places of the Ansaar, asking them for support.
They would say: O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! we have pledged our allegiance to this man (Aboo Bakr), and if your husband had come to us before Aboo Bakr we would not have chosen anyone over him.
And cAli would say: Was I to leave Rasoolollaah in his house without burying him, and go out to seek his rule from the people?!
And Fatima would say: The father of Hasan did what he should have done; and they (the Bakris] surely did what Allaah shall take them to account and question them.)).
  23. ((Ali took Faatimah on the back of a female donkey to the houses of Mohaajireen and Ansaar for forty days, along with Hasan and Hosayn. She would say: O Mohaajireen and Ansaar! support Allaah and the daughter of your Prophet. You had indeed pledged to Rasoolollaah, on the day you gave him your allegiance, to protect him and his family from what you protect yourselves and your families. So fulfill your pledge to Rasoolollaah. But no one supported her[105].)).
  24. ((City leaders gathered and went to Ameer al-Mo’meneen cAli, and said: O Father of Hasan! Faatimah cries night and day, so none of us enjoys sleep at night, and none of us can work during the day; so we are here to tell you to ask her: either to cry during the night or the day…
Thus Ameer al-Mo’meneen went to Faatimah while she was crying profusely, and when she saw him she calmed down for some moments.
So he told her: O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! The city leaders have asked me to ask you “either to cry during the night or the day”.
Fatima: O Father of Hasan! How short is my stay among them!! And how early is my absence from them!! So by Allah, I will not be silent either during the night or the day until I join my father Rasoolollaah.
Ali: Do O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! what you want.)).
  25. Bakri[123] scholars narrate from Aboo Bakr(LA)[124] who, after the attacks on cAli and Faatimah’s home, said to his men: ((Every man sleeps at night hugging his wife, happy with his family; but you left me alone with this problem. I do not need your allegiance, discharge me[125].)). [123] A Bakri is a follower of Aboo Bakr. Opposite Moslem, Sheecah, follower of Rasoolollaah. Some people unknowingly call the followers of Aboo Bakr “Sonnis”. Sonni means a follower of the tradition of Rasoolollaah; and since the followers of Aboo Bakr follow him and not Rasoolollaah, it is wrong to call them Sonnis.[124] Lacnatollaah cAlayh, may Allaah distance him from His Blessings and Mercy.[125] al-Imaamah wa al-Seyaasah / Ibn Qotaybah = vol. 1, page 14.
  26. Bakri scholars narrate from cAli al-Helaali, who said:((I went to the Prophet while he was on his deathbed, and found Faatimah sitting near his head. She wept heavily, so the Prophet looked at her and said: O my beloved Fatima! What makes you cry? So she said: I fear the loss after you. So he said: O my beloved! Do you not know that Allah, the Great and the Almighty, looked at the inhabitants of the earth and chose your father, and sent him with His message; then He looked once more and chose your husband, and revealed to me to give you to him in marriage?! O Fatima! We are a family to which, Allah, the Great and the Almighty, has surely given seven gifts, that He had not given anyone before us and will not give anyone after us: I am the last of the Prophets, and the most honorable to Allah. And my Wasi[4] is the best of the awseyaa’[5], and the most beloved to Allah, the Great and the Almighty; and he is your husband. And our Martyr is the best of the martyrs, and the most beloved to Allah; and he is Hamzah ibn cAbdolmottalib, your father’s uncle. And from us is he who has two green wings, who flies with the angels to whatever direction he wants; and he is your father’s cousin, and your husband’s brother. And from us are the two Grandsons of this nation, who are your sons Hasan and Hosayn, and they are the Masters of the Youths of Heaven; and their father, by Him Who sent me with the Truth, is better than them. O Fatima! By Him Who sent me with the Truth, from your sons is the Mahdi of this nation. When the world is reduced to commotion and turmoil, and when strife follows strife, and when the paths are broken, and when some people raid others, so that no old has mercy for a young, and no young has mercy for an old, then Allah the Great and the Almighty shall send from your sons he who will conquer the fortresses of deviation, and the covered hearts; and he will rule according to the religion at the end of the time, as I ruled by the religion at the beginning of the time; and he will fill the world with justice just as it had been filled with oppression. O Fatima! Do not be sorrowful, and do not cry, for indeed Allaah, the Great and the Almighty, is more merciful and compassionate to you than I am, and that is because of your place and position in my heart. Indeed, Allah gave you in marriage to your husband, and he is of the noblest pedigree, and with the most honorable position; and he is the most kind to the subjects, and the most just in equality, and the most knowledgeable in any field. And I have surely asked my God, the Great and the Almighty, that you be the first of my family to join me. And Fatima died seventy-five days after Rasoolollaah’s death[6].)). [5] Plural of wasi. 27.  Both Moslem and Bakri scholars narrate from Ibn cAbbaas who said that on his deathbed, Rasoolollaah said the following about Faatimah(AaS)[10]((…And when I saw her, I remembered what will be done to her after me. As if I can see the degradation enter her house, and her sacredness violated, and her rights usurped, and her inheritance kept away from her, and her ribs broken, and her fetus killed; while she cries: O my Mohammad! But she will not be answered. And asks for help, but she will not be helped. Thus, she will remain after me sorrowful, grief-stricken and crying. Remembering the end of revelation from her home, at one time, and remembering my absence, at another time. She will feel desolated when the night falls, as she can no longer listen to me reciting the Qor’aan. Then she finds herself humiliated after having been respected at the time of her father; thus Allah shall cheer her up and call on her with what He called on Maryam[11] the daughter of cEmraan[12]/[13], so He would say: O Fatima! Surely Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the world. O Fatima! Keep to obedience to your Lord and perform sojood[14] and perform rokooc[15] with those who perform rokooc. Then the pain will start, and she will fall ill; so Allah, the Great, the Almighty, shall send Maryam the daughter of cEmraan to her to nurse her and keep her company. She then shall say: O Lord! I have surely become bored with the life, and have been annoyed by the people; so join me with my father. And Allah, the Great, the Almighty will join her with me; and she will be the first to join me from my family. Thus she will come to me sorrowful, anguished, grief-stricken, usurped, killed. Rasoolollaah then added: O Allah! Keep away from Your Mercy him who does her injustice, and punish him who usurps her, and humiliate him who humiliates her, and keep forever in Your Fire him who hits her side causing the miscarriage of her fetus. And the angels said: Aameen[16].)). [10] cAlayhas Salaam, peace be upon her. [11] Also Mary[12] Also Amran.[13] Holy Qor’aan = soorah 3, aayaat 42 and 43.[14] A particular position in salaat in which the forehead, the palms, the knees and the toes of both feet are placed on the ground. Sojood is also performed on its own—not as part of a salaat—for  a number of reasons, some of which are mandatory whereas others are recommended.[15] A particular position in salaat in which a person bows down, placing the palms on the knees, whilst keeping the legs and the back in a straight position.[16] Amaali / al-Sadooq = page 112. 28. Bakri scholars narrate from Ameer al-Mo’meneen(AS)[26] who said: ((I washed Rasoolollaah (after his death) in his shirt. So Faatimah used to tell me: Show me the shirt. And whenever she smelled it, she lost consciousness. So seeing that, I hid the shirt[27].)). [27] Faatimah min al-Mahd elaa al-Lahd / al-Qazweeni = page 313, from Maqtal al-Hosayn / al-Khaarazmi.
  29. In her famous public speech in the mosque she said: ((Is it then the judgment of (the times of) ignorance that you desire?! And who is better than Allah to judge for a people who are sure?[93])).
     She also said:
((Do you intentionally abandon the Book of Allah and cast it behind your back?!)).
    She also said:
((…So to what direction did you go after announcement? And why did you conceal after declaring? And turn on your heels after daring? And become polytheists after believing?
Misery be upon “A people who broke their oaths after their promise, and aimed at the expulsion of the Apostle, and they attacked you first, do you fear them? But Allah is most deserving that you should fear Him, if you are believers[94].
Indeed I can surely see that you are inclined to easy living; and that you have kept away who is more worthy of the caliphate; and have secluded yourselves with comfort; and have taken refuge from wideness to narrowness. So you spitted out what you had kept, and vomited what had smoothed down your throats. “If you disbelieve, you and those on earth all together, most surely Allah is Self-Sufficient, Praised[95].)).
    She also said:
((Do you then unite in treachery, justifying it with fabrication?! And this after his death is similar to what was directed at him during his life[96].)).
  30. And Rasoolollaah(SAA)[3] as God’s Messenger, had to inform people of Fatima's great abilities, so that they may use them to the best of their capabilities in their journeys through the various levels of completeness and perfection. Therefore, one of the things he emphasized was Fatima's ability to know, beyond any doubt, what makes God satisfied and what makes Him angry. And because Allah had granted her cElm al-Ghayb and the cEsmah, her satisfaction and anger reflected that of Allaah. Therefore, the Prophet tied Allaah’s satisfaction and anger to that of Faatimah(AaS)[4], so people may know Allaah’s satisfaction and anger. [3] Sallallaah cAlayh wa Aalih, Allaah’s Blessings be upon him and his descendants. [4] cAlayhas Salaam, peace be upon her.
  31. He used every opportunity and used different words and various methods to transmit this to the people in such a way that even her Bakri enemies narrated them, despite the fact that they were terribly damaging to their leaders, especially Aboo Bakr and cOmar. For instance, Bakri scholars narrate from Rasoolollaah, who said: ((Verily, Allaah, the Great, the Almighty surely becomes angry for Faatimah’s anger, and becomes satisfied for Faatimah’s satisfaction[5]/[6].)). 35. And when we look at the history books, we see that Sayyedat Nesaa’ al-cAAlameen[11] was the closest person to Rasoolollaah among women, just as Ameer al-Mo’meneen was the closest person to him among men, as cAa’eshah(LAa)[12], their hateful enemy, testifies: [11] Chief of the Women of the World; a title given exclusively to Faatimah, the Daughter of Rasoolollaah, by Allaah. [12] Lacnatollaah cAlayha, may Allaah distance her from His Blessings and Mercy.
  36. ((Jomay’ ibn Omayr al-Taymi narrates: I went to cAa’eshah, along with my paternal aunt, and she asked her: Which person was more beloved to Rasoolollaah? cAa’eshah said: Faatimah. Someone else asked her: And among men? cAa’eshah said: Her husband. He was surely, in as much as I knew him, a person who fasted very often, and worshipped very often[13].)). While he was walking, someone came and spoke with him and then left. I continued following the Prophet, and as he heard me, he asked: Who is this? I said: Hothayfah. He said: What do you want? So I told him what had happened between my mother and me.  And he said: May Allaah forgive you and your mother. Did you not see the person who just came to see me? I said: Yes. He said: He was an angel who had not descended to the earth before this night; he asked for permission from his God to come greet me and inform me that Hasan and Hosayn are the “Masters of the Youths of Heaven” and that Faatimah is the “Chief of the Women of the World”[38].)). I see you do something I had not seen you do before. [49] Plural of hadeeth: a narration from one of the Fourteen Macsoomeen.

  81. Due to their extraordinary upbringing, Hassan (as) and Hussein (as) were wise from an early age and their manners were exemplary. Once they saw an old man performing ablutions incorrectly. They didn’t want to embarrass him or be impolite, so they started arguing between themselves who did ablutions the best. They asked the man to watch them and judge. When they both performed the ablutions the same way, the man realized his mistake. He happily informed them that they were right and had corrected his mistake in a polite way. Another famous incident was when Hassan (as) and Hussein (as) were ill. Ali (as), Fatima (as), their servant Fizza and the two children observed fast for 3 days. They had only a little bread to break their fast with. Each day right before sunset, a needy person would appear: first a poor man, then a destitute ophan, and finally a freed slave. In their generosity, they never refused anyone, and gave away their food each time and went hungry, breaking their fast with water. Soon after this the children returned to good health. It was this event that led to the verses 5-7 of Surah Insan being revealed.

Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor.
A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance.
They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide.
  82. * Moslem scholars narrate:
((When Hosayn ibn cAli [Imaam Hosayn] was killed, and the news that his head had been cut and carried to Yazeed ibn Mocaawiyah[127] reached Madinah… mourning ceremonies were held in the home of Rasoolollaah’s wife, Omm Salamah, and the homes of the Mohaajireen and the Ansaar.
Suddenly, cAbdollaah ibn cOmar ibn al-Khattaab came out of his home, with his collar torn[128], slapping his face, and screaming: O crowd of Bani Haashim[129], and Qoraysh, and Mohaajireen and Ansaar! Is it assumed permissible to do this to the family and the lineage of Rasoolollaah while you are alive?! Yazeed must be dethroned.
That night he left Madinah traveling towards Damascus, and in every city he called the people to rise against Yazeed. And reports of his activities were constantly sent to Yazeed.
And the people listened to him and cursed Yazeed, saying: This is cAbdollaah son of cOmar, Rasoolollaah’s khaleefah, and he is denouncing what Yazeed has done to Ahl al-Bayt, and is calling the people against him; so whoever does not answer his call is not a Moslem. Thus a great unrest hit Damascus.
Finally, he entered the capital and came to Yazeed’s castle with a large crowd…
He was given permission to enter the castle alone, so he entered screaming at Yazeed: You have done what the Turks and the Romans would not have done; move aside so that the Moslems choose someone more suitable for this position.
However, Yazeed received him politely, hugged him, and respected him greatly. Then he said: O Abaa Mohammad! [cAbdollaah] calm down…
Did your father appoint my father as the Governor of Shaam[130], or did my father appoint your father as Rasoolollaah’s Khaleefah?
cAbdollaah: My father appointed your father.
Yazeed: O Abaa Mohammad! Do you accept your father and his advice to my father?
    cAbdollaah: Yes I accept.
Then Yazeed held cAbdollaah’s hand, saying: Stand up O Abaa Mohammad! and read it (Omar’s advice to Mocaawiyah). So they walked into one of the safes where Yazeed asked for a specific box, opened it and took out a smaller box which was sealed and locked, he then took out a thin scroll wrapped in a black silk cloth and gave it to cAbdollaah, saying: O Abaa Mohammad! is this not your father’s hand writing?
cAbdollaah: Yes, by Allaah; and he kissed it.
    Yazeed: Read.
And cAbdollaah read it. [Only some excerpts of cOmar’s letter to Mocaawiyah are mentioned here):
…So I swear by the Hobal and the Idols and the Laat and the cOzzaa[131] that cOmar never renounced them since he first worshiped them, and that he never worshiped the God of the Kacbah, and that he never believed Mohammad. And that he never saluted him accept for becoming powerful enough to work against him and suppress him, for he (Rasoolollaah) had indeed come to us with a great sorcery, and added to that of the Israelites with Moosaa, Haaroon, Daawood, Solaymaan and cEesaa; he brought us all of their sorcery and added to it so much that if they had seen him, they would have testified that he is the Master of the Sorcerers.
So hold on O son of Abi Sofyaan! to the tradition of your people, and follow their religion, and continue the mission of your fathers in denouncing this structure (Kacbah) which they say has a God whom ordered them to come to it and circumambulate around it…
And thank the Laat and the cOzzaa for the rule of the Wise Master cAteeq ibn cAbdolcozzaa [Aboo Bakr] on the nation of Mohammad, and his authority in their finances, bloods, faiths, souls, permissibles, prohibitions, taxes… so he would rule leniently in public and harshly in secret…
And indeed, I made a magnificent leap on the shining star of Bani Haashim[132], and its luminous summit… the one named Haydarah[133], Mohammad’s son-in-law, husband of the woman they appointed as Sayyedat Nesaa’ al-cAAlameen, calling her Faatimah. I came to the home of cAli, Faatimah and their two sons Hasan and Hosayn, and their two daughters Zaynab and Omm Kolthoom, and their housemaid Feddah, along with Khaalid ibn al-Waleed, Qonfodh and a number of our most loyal men. So I knocked on the door very hard and the housemaid answered me. I told her: Tell cAli: Forget this nonsense and do not think about the khelaafah, for surely it is not yours; it is for whom has been chosen by the Moslems…
Again I went to cAli’s home and told Feddah: Tell cAli to come out and pledge allegiance to Aboo Bakr. But she said: Indeed, Ameer al-Mo’meneen is busy. So I said: Tell him to come out, or we will come in and extract him by force.
Then Faatimah came and stood behind the door, saying: O you straying liars! What are you saying? And what do you want?
    So I said: O Faatimah!
Faatimah: What do you want O cOmar?
I said: Why did your cousin send you to answer me and he chose to sit behind the cover?!
Faatimah: Your tyranny O scoundrel! Brought me out.
I said: Forget the women’s nonsense and myths and tell cAli to come out.
Faatimah: Do you threaten me with the party of the Shaytaan[134] O cOmar?!…
I said: If he does not come out, I will bring a lot of firewood and will burn down this house on whoever is inside; and I took the whip from Qonfodh and lashed her, and told Khaalid: You and the men gather the wood, for surely I am burning it down.
Faatimah: O enemy of Allaah and the enemy of His Messenger and the enemy of Ameer al-Mo’meneen!
She then put her hands on the door, trying to stop me from entering; so I lashed her hands with the whip which hurt her, and I heard her sighs and cries; and I nearly went soft and was about to return, but I remembered my despise of cAli and his passion for the blood of the stouthearted Arabs, and the cunning of Mohammad and his sorcery, so I kicked the door against her while she was behind it, and I heard her scream: O my father! This is what is done to your beloved daughter! Ah O Feddah! Hold me, for indeed, by Allaah, my fetus has been killed.
I heard her go into labor, leaning on the wall, so I pushed the door and entered the house. She came towards me and I slapped her face so hard that her earring tore from her ear, and she fell down.
Then cAli came, and when I sensed him I quickly went out and said to Khaalid and Qonfodh: I escaped from a great danger; indeed, I have committed a serious crime and I fear for my life. This is cAli coming out, and none of us can handle him.
So cAli reached her just as she was about to pray to Allaah against us and complain of what had happened to her, so he spread a wrap on her, telling her: O Daughter of Rasoolollaah! indeed Allaah sent your father as a mercy to the creatures. I swear by Allaah, that if you uncovered your forehead and prayed to your Lord, He will most definitely destroy these people; as you and your father are dearer to Allaah than Nooh, for whom He drowned the people who were not on his ship… So be O Chief of the Women! a mercy to these inverted people, and do not be a punishment.
Her pain then increased, and she entered her room and miscarried a dead fetus that was called Mohassin…
So when cAbdollaah read the letter, he stood up and kissed Yazeed’s head, saying: Praise be to God O Ameer al-Mo’meneen! for your killing the enemy, son of the enemy!! I swear that my father did not tell me what he had told your father…[135])). [127] The fifth Usurper of the Khelaafah, and the third Amawi ruler. LADY FATIMA ZAHRA'S WILL TO IMAM ALI (A)
Imam Ali (A) was surprised to find that his dear wife had left her bed and had started doing the housework; he asked her about it and she replied:

"This is the last day of my life. I want to wash my children's hair and clothes, because they will soon be orphans, without a mother!!"

Imam Ali (A) then asked her about the source of knowledge of this news (the day of her departure). She (A) told him that she had seen the Messenger of Allah in her dream and he had told her that she was going to join him that night. She then asked Imam Ali (A) to execute her will.

    He said:

"Instruct me to do anything you wish, daughter of Allah's Messenger." Ali (A) then asked everyone to leave the house and he sat next to her.

    Fatima started:

"Cousin, you are not accustomed to me being a False-teller, undevoted, or have I disobeyed you since I have become your companion?"

    Ali said:

"Allah forbid!! You are more knowing of Allah, more devoted, more pious, and more honorable and more fearing of Allah than (to give me a reason) to reprimand you for disobeying me. Surely it is very painful for me to be separated from you and to lose you; but it is an inevitable destination. By Allah, you have renewed the sorrow I have just encountered with the death of Allah's Messenger; surely your death and departure will be a great calamity, but `to Allah do we belong, and to Him shall we return.'
What a painful, bitter and sad calamity. Surely this is a calamity for which there is not consolement, and a disaster for which there is no compensation."

Then they both cried and Imam Ali (A) embraced her head and said:

"Instruct me to do anything you wish; you certainly will find me devoted and I will execute everything that you command me to do. I shall also put your matters over mine."

    She (A) said:

"May Allah reward you with the best of goodness. Cousin, firstly I ask you to marry after my death, my niece Umamah; surely she will be to my children as I was. Besides, men cannot do without women."

    Fatima (A) then added:

"I ask you not to let anyone who did injustice to me to witness my funeral, for they certainly are enemies of mine, and the enemy of Allah's Messenger. Also don't give them the chance to pray over me, nor to any of their followers. Burry me at night when eyes are rested and sight is put to sleep."

"The treatment meted out to the daughter of the Prophet after his death has been extremely painful and sad. Although Sayyedah Fatima (A) did not live in this world more than a few months after the death of the Prophet (S), yet even this short period has a long tale of grief and woe (about her). In this connection, the first scene that strikes the eyes in that the arrangements for the funeral rites of the Prophet had not yet been made when the contest for power started in the Saqifa of Bani Sa'eda. Naturally, their leaving the body of the Prophet (without burial), must have injured Hadhrat Fatima's grief-stricken heart to see that those who claimed love and attachment (to the Prophet) during his life, became so engrossed in their machinations for power that instead of consoling his only daughter, they did not even know when the Prophet (S) was given funeral bath and when he was buried; and the way they condoled her, was that crowded at her house with material to set fire to it and tried to secure allegiance by force with all the display of oppression, compulsion and violence. All these excesses were with a view to so obliterate the prestigious position of this house that it might not remain its lost prestige on any occasion. With this aim in view, in order to crush her economic position, her claim for (the estate of) Fadak was turned down by dubbing it as false, the effect of which was that Hadhrat Fatima (A) made the dying will that none of them should attend her funeral."

Fatima Bint Muhammad was ready to meet her Lord. She bathed, than lay down in her garment... She then instructed Asma Bint Umais to wait awhile and then to call her name; if there was no answer, this would mean that she (A) had departed towards her Lord.
    Asma waited awhile, then called Fatima's name... but there was no answer;
    Asma repeated the call:

"O daughter of the chosen Muhammad!
O daughter of the most honorable of them whom women bore!
O daughter of the best of those who have walked on gravel! O daughter of him who was at `A distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer" (a Quranic verse, (53:9))

...There is no answer... silence overwhelms the house ...Asma then proceeds towards Fatima and finds her dead.
At that point, Hassan and Hussain entered and asked:

    "Where is our mother?"

Yet Asma uttered not a word!
Hassan and Hussain proceeded towards their mother and found her dead. At this, Hussain turned towards Hassan and said:

"May Allah console you for our Mother!"

Imam Ali (A) was at the Mosque. Hassan and Hussain went to the Mosque and broke the news to their father. As soon as he (A) heard their words, he fell unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he said:

"Who will console me now, daughter of Muhammad? You used to console me, so who will take your place now?"

The Hashimite women were then gathered to receive the news of the great calamity... Yes, the calamity befell them once more, while the blood was still flowing from the wound of losing the Prophet...
    Medina shakes...
Everyone came to console Ali (A) and his two children... Allah is with you, Zahra's children...

It was just yesterday that you were inflicted with the death of your great father-the Prophet of Allah-and your new calamity is not any less than that one! But take patience, for this is the will of the Mighty Lord.
